Is Earthfall for Xbox One worth buying?

Best answer: Definitely. Earthfall is one of the most engaging and content-rich cooperative shooters on Xbox One.Microsoft: Earthfall ($30)

What makes Earthfall special?

While Earthfall may look like a clone of Left 4 Dead at a glance, it's actually an evolution of Valve's award-winning game design. Instead of using zombies, Earthfall instead centers around an alien invasion of Earth that leaves the world devastated. You and three other survivors have to fight your way through the alien-infested ruins of society in order to find a way to fight back. With nearly ten different types of aliens to fight, a huge array of weapons, a fairly deep skill progression system, and a wide variety of different sandbox elements, Earthfall is an incredible cooperative shooter that takes the original Left 4 Dead concept and uses it to soar to new heights. My personal favorite part of Earthfall's sandbox are the metal gates that you can freely move around in order to create chokepoints that you can funnel hordes of aliens into.

Horde mode

As part of the game's recent Invasion update, Earthfall now has a horde mode that allows you and three others to face an endless wave of alien attackers for as long as possible. Fans of Firefight from the Halo series will love this, and the defensive nature of the mode encourages you to utilize some elements of Earthfall's sandbox in creative new ways. Since the game's spawning system dynamically creates waves of enemies for you to battle, horde mode will never play out the same way, either. This means that each match will feel like a brand new challenge, just like the regular levels do.

New levels and customization

Also new with the aforementioned Invasion update are a large collection of new campaign levels and character customization. The former brings never before seen areas to Earthfall, giving players brand new places to blast aliens to smithereens in, while the latter introduces cosmetics that the player can work towards by leveling up and playing the game, such as weapon skins and character outfits. Both additions add plenty of content to Earthfall, and give players a new reason to play the game again if they were bored of it previously.

Final thoughts on Earthfall

Earthfall was already an excellent title when it released earlier this year, but the addition of all the brand new content the Invasion update brought recently made it a must-own title for any gamer that likes cooperative shooters. For $30, you'll get a game that will keep you entertained and overjoyed for weeks and weeks.
