So, what makes this HP Envy so good that I'm ready to change my tune and grab it now? First, it's packing a 13th-gen Intel Core i7 13700H under the hood. These processors are multitasking machines ideal for media creation and are amongst the most powerful Intel makes for laptops with 14 cores (6 performance cores; 8 efficient ones) and a top speed of 5GHz.

Now, a multitask-friendly CPU isn't the only thing you need for a laptop to be handy for media creation. Most creative software is notorious for being RAM hogs, and the HP Envy has that dialed in, too, with 16 gigabytes of DDR5 RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU, a nice mid- to upper-range option suitable for creative endeavors and gaming alike.

Why I love HP's Envy x360 16 even when it's at full price

Black Friday is all about shoving as many deals as possible in front of our faces, especially when it comes to laptops. One common pitfall I often see involves PCs with the minimum amount of RAM and storage discounted to look like impressive deals. That's what I've filtered out with these two deals.

HP's Envy x360 16 is a successor to the 15-inch Envy model I reviewed in 2021. At the time I came away very impressed with what HP was offering for the price, and the Envy lineup has only improved in the last few years. It's a laptop that feels every bit as premium as HP's flagship laptops, and it brings the versatility of a convertible in tow.

The keyboard and touchpad are comfortable and accurate, the top-firing speakers provide clear audio no matter how you're using the PC, and there's a modern selection of ports, including Thunderbolt 4 and HDMI 2.1.

The model highlighted here is powered by Intel's Core Ultra 7 155H CPU, complete with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI tasks. That classifies it as an AI laptop, though it lacks the power to handle Copilot+ tools in Windows 11.

Memory and storage are the laptop's strong points, at least for the discounted configuration. You get 32GB of LPDDR5-6400MHz RAM, as well as a 2TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. The RAM is soldered, but the SSD can be upgraded further after purchase.

Considering memory upgrades in laptops are becoming evermore rare, a PC with 32GB from the factory will suit power users who regularly use RAM-intensive apps or who are into heavy multitasking. I often find that 16GB is no longer enough to handle photo editing and heavy web browsing.

The Envy x360 16 is riding a $450 discount at Best Buy, bringing it down to $899.99. Not even HP can beat that price.

Why recommend the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i as an alternative?

The main drawback to the Envy x360 that will affect some is the display. The 1920x1200 (FHD+) resolution, touch functionality, and 300 nits brightness will suit the average user, but some tasks demand a higher resolution. That's where the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i 16 (Gen 9) steps in.

Despite the Yoga name, it's not a convertible PC, so if you'd like to sometimes use your laptop like a tablet I'd stick with the Envy x360. It's an upgrade in almost every other way. There's a number pad attached to the keyboard, the touchpad is massive, and you still get top-firing speakers. Ports are similar to the Envy x360, with Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1, and multiple USB-A.

Performance hardware and display are the standout ingredients. It's built around a more powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 185H CPU (classifying it as an AI PC), and it adds a discrete NVIDIA RTX 4050 Laptop GPU instead of relying solely on integrated Intel graphics.

The 32GB of LPDDR5x-7467MHz RAM is faster, but you get half as much storage with a 1TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. At least you can upgrade the storage after purchase. Turning to the display, it jumps up to a crisp 3200x2000 resolution, with a 165Hz refresh rate, 400 nits brightness, and touch functionality. It even has Dolby Vision support with 100% sRGB and DCI-P3 color. Creators are going to love this laptop.

Best Buy has the best price going for the Yoga Pro 9i 16, dropping the regular $1,699.99 price down to $1,299.99. You'll spend $400 more compared to the Envy x360 16, but the extra features easily make up the difference.

Amazon's October Prime Day and Black Friday might be just around the bend, but Best Buy has jumped ahead of any major laptop deals with this $480 HP Envy x360 16. 

Will this AI PC get any cheaper next week when Amazon and competing retailers have their deal events? Hard to say. This is already the lowest price I've ever seen, dropping to $20 less than the previous $500 low last month. It's definitely worth taking a second look if you're in search of a versatile AMD-powered laptop with more high-end specs than the price suggests.

Why I love this HP Envy x360 16 deal

While I haven't personally tested this latest version of the HP Envy x360 16, I did review a couple of its predecessors. Even a couple of years ago, before HP added some new hardware to this latest version, I was impressed with what the company could offer in such an affordable Windows laptop. It was so good that I've been recommending it to anyone who wants a laptop that punches far above its price tag.

Yes, Amazon's October Prime Day — otherwise known as Prime Big Deal Days — is happening next week, but you can skip the frenzy with this steep discount that's already live.

The Envy x360 16 is designed to offer versatility in everyday work, and there are a few standout features that appeal to a ton of PC users. First off, it's a convertible PC with 360-degree hinges that allow the touch display to rotate all the way around. That turns it into a tablet — albeit an oversized 16-inch tablet — with support for HP's MPP 2.0 Tilt pen for inking.

Above the 16-inch display with 1920x1200 (FHD+) resolution is a 5MP webcam with an IR sensor for Windows Hello. The picture quality is crisp thanks to the boosted resolution, and you get the added security of facial biometrics. There's enough room around the keyboard for top-firing speakers, and DTS:X Ultra tuning provides a better sound quality. The speakers on older models blew me away, and they've only gotten better over time.

Speaking from experience, HP's keyboards are some of the best on the market in terms of comfort and responsiveness. That's no different here, and there's a massive touchpad below for accurate pointing and gestures.

Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 are on board for reliable wireless connectivity, and the 16-inch chassis has lots of space for a varied selection of ports. There's no Thunderbolt due to the AMD platform, but you get dual USB-C (10Gbps) with DP1.4a and PD, two USB-A (10Gbps), HDMI 2.1, and 3.5mm audio.

Should you buy a Copilot+ PC instead?

The Envy x360 16 is considered an AI PC thanks to its Ryzen 5 8640HS processor (CPU) with an AMD Ryzen AI Boost Neural Processing Unit (NPU). However, the NPU is at the low end of TOPS performance, and you'll probably notice it most when engaging things like Windows Studio Effects for your webcam.

For many people, that's more than enough. Not everyone needs a cutting-edge AI laptop. The low TOPS performance also excludes the Envy x360 16 from Copilot+ AI tools baked into Windows 11, but again that's not a huge deal for most users. 

The biggest perks coming out of the top Copilot+ PCs turn out to be battery life and performance, afforded by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X chips as well as next-gen Intel and AMD hardware. The trade-off is a much higher price than the discounted $480 Envy x360 16. I suggest checking out the best AI PC deals if you don't want to pay full price for a Copilot+ laptop.

And just because the Envy isn't a Copilot+ PC doesn't mean it won't deliver more than enough performance for productivity work and beyond. The Ryzen 5 8640HS CPU has plenty of multitasking potential, and the 512GB SSD is enough to get you started; you can always upgrade it later. 

The biggest drawback will likely be the 8GB of RAM, and unfortunately, it comes soldered with no potential for DIY upgrades. If you're a fan of having countless browser tabs open, the laptop might leave you wishing for more memory. Finally, the 68Wh battery, paired with an FHD+ resolution and AMD CPU, should get you through most of a workday on a charge.

The HP Envy x360 13th Gen 2-in-1 laptop is an exceptional piece of hardware packed with plenty of advanced tech and features that set it on par with some of the best Windows laptops. 

The device delivers exceptional performance, powered by an Intel Core i5-1335U processor (up to 4.6 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology, 12 MB L3 cache, 10 cores, 12 threads), 8GB of RAM, and an Intel Iris Xe graphics card. It features a built-in 1440p webcam, perfect for business meetings or social calls. The HP Envy x360 boasts a comfortable, ergonomic keyboard with responsive keys and supports pen input, allowing for direct screen drawing for digital art or note-taking. Thanks to Best Buy's 33% discount deal, which reduced the MSRP from $919.99 to $619.99, now's the best time to purchase, as you will save $300.

At CES 2024 in Las Vegas, many companies announced their plans to integrate AI across their products and services. The situation isn't any different at the MWC 2024 trade show in Barcelona. HP recently announced brand new laptops in its Envy and Pavilion ranges with AI capabilities designed to optimize the user's creativity and productivity while presenting a curated and personalized experience.

The new laptops come with AI-powered features such as 'HP Smart Sense,' which optimizes performance by managing typical features like fan noise and temperature. You'll get powerful Intel Core Ultra or AMD Ryzen 8000 Series processors with dedicated NPUs for handling AI tasks, and the new Pavilion and Envy models feature a dedicated AI Copilot key alongside a 30-day trial of Otter.ai for help with transcribing video meetings.

Pavilion laptops are perfect for personalized computing

The Pavilion range expands with two new laptops: Pavilion Aero and Pavilion 16. The Aero is, at least according to HP, now the world's lightest 'AI-enhanced' consumer laptop, made of lightweight, recycled magnesium aluminum. It has a 13.3-inch display and uses the latest AMD Ryzen processors. It'll be available for purchase in May for a starting MSRP of $799.99.

The Pavilion 16, on the other hand, features a 16-inch OLED display, NVIDIA graphics on Intel models, and a larger precision touchpad alongside a backlit keyboard. It'll be available in April starting at $799.99 MSRP, with configuration options offering several Intel or AMD processors and an optional FHD IR camera for face detection. Either way, both Pavilion laptops come with HP's Fast Charge feature that allows you to juice up your device quickly with a lofty promised battery life of up to 19 hours.

The HP Envy series adapts to all your needs

HP is going all out with the new Envy series laptops, unveiling the new HP Envy x360 'Laptop PC' and HP Envy x360 2-in-1. You can choose between either a 14-inch or 16-inch version with Intel or AMD Ryzen processors, depending on your needs.

Both entries promise an impressive battery life of up to 17 hours, with the Intel version shipping with Thunderbolt 4 support. They'll also feature a 16:10 screen ratio and 'significant improvements' on the keyboard and touchpad.

Both models are expected to be available at HP and Best Buy in March 2024. The HP Envy x360 14 with Intel processors will be available at a starting price of $959.99, while the HP Envy x360 16 with Intel will be available for a starting price of $879.99 and the AMD version starts at $859.99.

Finally, the company is unveiling its HP Envy 17.3-inch laptop, which features NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 GPUs for gaming and content creation. Predictably, a downside to including a dedicated graphics card is that it falls short in battery life compared to the rest, with up to 9 hours.

But it makes up with a larger touchpad, backlit keys, and AI-enabled presence-sensing technology for added security. It also ships with Wi-Fi 7 support for the fastest possible wireless networking speeds alongside Bluetooth 5.4, Thunderbolt 4, and USB-C charging for enhanced performance and better connectivity. It's expected to be available in March at HP and Best Buy for a starting price of $1,299.99.

The MacBook Air is a fine laptop if you want to run macOS, but there are plenty of PCs that compete with it. Our colleagues over at iMore spotted a great deal on the MacBook Air with an M1 processor, but you don't have to venture into the world of Apple to get a great computer for under $800.

Best Buy has quite a few laptop deals right now, including the HP Envy 2-in-1 15" and the Lenovo Yoga 7i. The ASUS Vivobook 16 isn't discounted at the moment, but it is still one of the best laptops you can get in its price range.

At the end of the day, all of these are great Windows laptops. The one that's best for you depends on your workflow and if you need a convertible PC. And all of them are better options than the M1 MacBook Air if you want to stick with the Windows operating system.

The HP Spectre x360 2-in-1 has a 16-inch 3K display that supports touch and an active pen (included in box), making it a solid choice for taking notes or some light artwork, though creators should probably opt for a more powerful model.

HP Envy for more power

If you're looking for something more powerful, the HP Envy 16 is on sale for $450 off. That model runs on a 12th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 laptop graphics. That's enough computing power for creators and some professional workloads. If you don't like that exact spec sheet, there are other options of the CPU and GPU side of things, including the Intel Arc A370M version.

What you need to know

• HP just announced the Envy 16 and 17.3 laptops, which are built for creators.
• The Envy 16 is among the first laptops to have an option with Intel Arc graphics.
• Both the Envy 16 and Envy 17.3 are expected to start shipping today, May 19, 2022, with starting prices of $1,400 and $1,100, respectively.

HP refreshed its Envy lineup by announcing the Envy 16 and Envy 17.3 today. The laptops feature the latest specs from Intel and NVIDIA, including an option for Intel Arc mobile graphics in the case of the Envy 16. Both devices are aimed at creators and professionals that require mobility.

The spec sheets of the Envy 16 and 17.3 place them squarely against the best Windows laptops. The Envy 16 will be available with up to an Intel Core i9-12900H CPU and either NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics. The Envy 17.3 takes a slightly different approach, offering up to a 12th Gen Intel Core i7-1260P and NVIDIA GeForce RT 2050 laptop graphics.

Each of the new Envy laptops feature up to 4K displays. The Envy 16 has an OLED option that can reach up to 400 nits of brightness while covering 100% sRGB. In contrast, the Envy 17.3 has an IPS panel.

The GPU options for the Envy 16 are one of the big takeaways from HP's announcement today. The Envy 16 is one of the first laptops with an Intel Arc A370M GPU. Once we get our hands on the laptop, we'll be able to get our first glimpse of Intel's new graphics in the real world.

Creators can opt for NVIDIA graphics instead. The Envy 16 has a model with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, while the Envy 17.3 can include an RTX 2050. Both devices will also be available with Intel Iris Xe graphics for those that don't need as much power.

The Envy 16 should be available from May 19, 2022 with a starting price of $1,400. The Envy 17.3 is also set to start shipping on May 19, 2022 and it will have a lower entry price of $1,100.

HP has unveiled another new all-in-one at CES 2022 in the form of the ENVY 27, a smaller version of the ENVY 34 that was announced a few months back. Featuring a 27-inch display, Intel 11th-Gen chips, a 4K display, and more.

Just like the ENVY 34, the ENVY 27 features ports built into the stand for easy access, as well as ports around the back. It's a more traditional looking all in one thanks to the standard 16:9 aspect ratio, compared to the ENVY 34's ultrawide aspect.

It also has a detachable magnetic webcam, true to life color, and powerful performance as per HP. We reviewed the ENVY 27's bigger brother earlier this year, and came away super impressed. This ENVY 27 appears to be the same product, but built for those who want a smaller all-in-one that doesn't feature an ultrawide monitor. Perfectly acceptable!

Generally speaking, if you can get a solid Windows laptop deal for below $550, it's a good deal. The HP Envy 13 with an Intel Core i5 processor usually costs $700, but right now, you can pick one up for $549 through Walmart. That discount delivers a piece of HP hardware that is better than many of the best budget laptops.

The HP Envy 13 runs on an 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor and has Intel Iris Xe graphics. It features 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The laptop also supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5, helping it connect to devices through modern protocols. There are dual speakers on the HP Envy 13 that are by Bang & Olufsen, helping deliver nice audio while enjoying media or conference calls.

Save on HP Envy 13 for the holidays

The laptop has a 13.3-inch FHD display that supports touch. That display is wrapped with thin bezels, which allow HP to fit a larger screen into a compact laptop body.

Depending on your usage, HP claims that the Envy 13 can get up to 16 hours of battery life, but even the company admits that the laptop will get around 11 hours and 30 minutes if you're streaming content.

Does the name "HP ENVY 34 All-in-One Desktop PC" sound familiar to you? It might, as HP got the media machine rolling for this machine a while back, though it withheld preorder options at the time. Over here at Windows Central, we gave the AiO a hands-on and wound up adoring its 5K display, ample horsepower, and smart design.

It's a powerhouse of a machine. The edition you can preorder right now packs 16GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, an RTX 3060 GPU (one of the best graphics cards on the market), and a 34" WUHD 5K (5120x2160) display. It'll cost you $2,349.99.

It clocks in at just under 25 pounds all by its lonesome and packs everyone's favorite new operating system, Windows 11. If you're not happy with the specs up above, you can upgrade your ENVY experience to an RTX 3080 as well as a stronger processor and a mammoth cap of 128GB of RAM.

Best Buy has been on a roll with some great computer deals recently. If you're in the market for a new laptop, I hope you're paying attention. For example, one of Best Buy's daily deals features the HP Envy 17.3-inch touchscreen laptop on sale for $929.99. That's a low price at Best Buy and great value considering all the features crammed into this machine. Of course these deals do expire at the end of the day, so you'll want to grab one while you can.

Even though this laptop is on sale, it's not exactly lacking in features or tech. It's powered by an 11th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, 12GB RAM, and a 512GB NVMe M.2 solid state drive. It also has 32GB Intel Optane Memory that further increases your ability to load up fast. It's powered by Intel Iris Xe graphics.

The 17.3-inch display has full touchscreen tech and a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. It also uses an IPS panel and is made with Corning Gorilla Glass NBT to help prevent accidental damage and make the display last past the normal abuse that comes with dealing with a touchscreen.

Not only does the computer have a great battery life to begin with, but it is also equipped with HP Fast Charge so you can get to 50% battery life in just 45 minutes. Other features include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, a fingerprint reader, and a built-in webcam that has a privacy shutter. Use the Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port to power your device or connect up to two 4K displays. It also has a blazing fast 40 Gbps signaling rate.

HP announced two new ENVY laptops today, the ENVY x360 15 and the ENVY 17. The laptops are both built with creators in mind.

As the name suggests, the ENVY x360 15 is a convertible laptop that can flip around into different modes. It has an 88.75% screen-to-body ratio and an optional 4K OLED display. Inside, it runs on up to an AMD Ryzen 7 or an 11th Gen Intel processor. You can pair the CPU with NVIDIA MX450 graphics.

The ENVY x360 15 has the modern connectivity you'd expect from a new laptop, including Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5. You can get the convertible laptop in either Natural Silver or Nightfall Black.

The ENVY 17 is a "mobile creative powerhouse," according to HP. It has an 86.3% screen-to-body ratio and up to a 4K UHD display. It runs on 11th Gen Intel Core processors and an NVIDIA MX450 GPU. Like its ENVY sibling, the ENVY 17 supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.

The ENVY 17 should be able to handle heavier workloads since it comes with up to 32GB of memory. It also features up to 1TB of storage, so you should be able to store plenty of large files locally.

Both new ENVY laptops have factory color calibration on their displays. The laptops also come with HP Display Color, which allows you to optimize the screen for different situations. They also have 19% larger trackpads compared to their previous generations.

Creators also get a bit of a gift when they purchase one of the devices. Both new ENVY laptops come with a 30-day trial of Adobe Creative Cloud, which includes Premiere Rush, Premiere Pro, and many other apps.

HP highlights that the laptops are also environmentally friendly, as they use post-consumer recycled and ocean-bound plastics. Their packaging is environmentally friendly as well. It uses wood fiber from recycled materials and doesn't use any single-use plastics.

Alongside the new ENVY laptops, HP announced the HP 930 Wireless Mouse. It can connect to up to three devices via a dongle or Bluetooth, allowing you to drag and drop content between the devices. The mouse gets up to 12 weeks of battery life on a single charge as well.

The AMD version of the ENVY x360 15 starts at $750, while the Intel version starts at $900. The ENVY 17 starts at $1,250. All of the new ENVY laptops are already listed at Best Buy.

HP ENVY 13

The ENVY 13 is built for creators. It has the latest ports and connectivity, including Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.0. While the display of the laptop is FHD or 4K, it can output up to 5K through Thunderbolt 4. The ENVY 13 gets up to 13 hours of battery life, according to HP.

The ENVY 13 supports HP Quickdrop, which is an app that allows you to wirelessly transfer files between Windows, iOS, and Android.

The ENVY 13 is available in metal or wood options, though wood options are limited to certain regions.

HP ENVY x360 13

The ENVY x360 13 is also built for creators. It also runs on the latest Intel processors and can flip around to function as a tablet as well. It supports touch, pen input, and has an all-in-one keyboard, which can help with hotkeys.

The ENVY x360 13 also supports HP Quickdrop to easily transfer files between devices across operating systems.

The ENVY x360 13 has several privacy features as well, including a camera shutter and a SureView privacy screen.

Both devices should launch in October and will be available to order on HP's website and through Best Buy.

That's $150 off of what Costco usually charges, and around $250 off the price at HP's online store.

The HP Envy x360 is among our top picks for HP budget PCs, and the 2020 model has seen some key refinements. The display bezel is smaller on the 2020 model, giving it an 88 percent screen-to-body ratio. Meanwhile, the speakers have moved from the keyboard deck to the bottom edges, making the deck much smaller.

HP is stepping up its 13-inch and 15-inch convertible game with the more mainstream ENVY series. Three new refreshes of the ENVY 13, ENVY x360 13, and ENVY x360 15 are hitting in early May with affordable pricing and some of the latest specs from Intel and AMD, which is new.

What's super exciting is in the 15-inch model, HP is going to sell an Intel one and an AMD option. No surprise, the AMD one is more affordable.

HP ENVY 13 (2020)

First up, the ENVY 13, which is one of our top HP budget picks, gets a redesign for 2020. Gone are the top firing speakers found behind the keyboard, and instead, following Spectre, they move to the bottom edges. As a result, the top deck is significantly smaller, reducing the overall footprint of the ENVY 13.

Likewise, the display bezel, long a thorn for HP, is shrinking down on the bottom, giving a more symmetrical, cleaner look and a pleasing 88 percent screen-to-body ratio. The aspect ratio, however, is still fixed at 16:9. Full HD is the default resolution, but, like last year, you can also order a 4K variant, which is excellent.

Hardware is expected with up to a 10th Gen Intel Core i7-1065G7, full HD IPS touch display, 8GB of DDR4-3200 RAM, 256GB SSD, and Intel Iris Plus graphics. Graphics, though, can get an extra boost with an optional NVIDIA GeForce MX330, which is a bump from last year's MX250.

Pricing for the ENVY 13 starts at $1,000, and it comes in natural silver or pale gold.

HP ENVY x360 13 (2020)

For those who want a convertible with plenty of options, HP has the new ENVY x360 13, which now ships with a highly desirable AMD Ryzen 7 4700U and Radeon graphics. That laptop has just 8GB of DDR4 RAM and up to 512GB SSD, but surprisingly it does have Thunderbolt 3, too, for its single Type-C port. Two more Type-A ports and a microSD card reader round out the main specs.

Though the features on the ENVY x360 13 are less drool-worthy, including a modest full HD touch display and just Wi-Fi 5, the low starting price of just $700 is hard to ignore. That "nightfall black" is also an excellent differentiator.

HP ENVY x360 15 (2020)

Besides the two 13-inch ENVY laptops, HP is also announcing the latest ENVY x360 15. As the name implies, this is a similar laptop to the ENVY x360 13, but swaps out a 13.3-inch screen for a larger 15.6-inch one instead.

That comparison carries over to the hardware configuration, which includes that new AMD Ryzen 5 4500U to the Ryzen 7 4700U.

However, unlike the 13-inch, HP is letting users pick if they want Intel's latest chip instead, ranging from the Core i5-1035G1 to the i7-1065G7. In an exciting twist, the AMD version still comes in that super cool "nightfall black", while the Intel model gets a tamed "natural silver".

Graphics go up to an optional NVIDIA GeForce MX330 (Intel) or Radeon for AMD.

The display gets the same 88 percent screen-to-body ratio with an option for full HD up to 4K AMOLED.

Look for both the ENVY 13 ($1,000) and ENVY x360 13 ($700) to go on sale starting in early May from HP.com and other US retailers. The ENVY x360 15 hits stores also in early May, but pricing start from $700 for the AMD to $850 for the Intel, which is interesting.

Besides these three ENVYs, HP also announced the ENVY 15 (non-convertible). That laptop is set to take on Apple's MacBook Pro 16 and Dell's powerhouse XPS 15. You can read about the ENVY 15 here.
