<p>Forza Horizon 6 is right around the corner. The latest entry into the series from Playground Games launches on May 19, 2026, bringing the long-requested Japanese cityscape and countryside, along with over 550 cars.</p><p><a href="https://x.com/i/status/2041803476070523044" target="_blank">Following the recent map reveal on X</a>, (more to come on that in our preview later today) we now have a look at some limited edition accessories. These include a new Xbox Wireless Controller and a new headset, revealed in a <a href="https://www.dealabs.com/magazine/forza-horizon-6-plusieurs-accessoires-xbox-en-edition-limitee-arrivent-voici-nos-infos-61210" target="_blank">report from billbil-kun</a>. </p><h2 id="new-forza-horizon-6-controller-and-headset-detailed">New Forza Horizon 6 controller and headset detailed</h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1273px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.56%;"><img id="swXdrU4TNtZzsuVuaQmGkM" name="forza-horizon-6-logo" alt="Forza Horizon 6 logo on a Japanese background" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/swXdrU4TNtZzsuVuaQmGkM.png" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="1" width="1273" height="720" attribution="" endorsement="" class="inline expandable"><a href='https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/swXdrU4TNtZzsuVuaQmGkM.png' target='_blank' class='expand-button icon-expand-image icon' ></a></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Forza Horizon 6 logo with Mt Fuji in the background </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Xbox)</span></figcaption></figure><p><a href="https://x.com/billbil_kun/status/2041818264578257193?s=46&t=S-AGzmh16JeynUuYZUgLtA" target="_blank">In the report from billbil-kun</a>, it is brought up that Xbox has not released a new <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/report-were-getting-a-doom-xbox-elite-controller-and-xbox-series-x-console-wrap-to-celebrate-the-dark-ages" target="_blank">limited edition controller since DOOM: The Dark Ages in April 2025</a>. This means it has been a while since the last release. For headsets, the most recent <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/starfield-themed-wireless-xbox-controller-and-headset-officially-revealed" target="_blank">limited edition model was inspired by Starfield, which launched in June 2023.</a></p><p>While there has been no official look at the new accessories yet, they are expected to be themed around Forza Horizon 6. Here is a breakdown of what to expect:</p><ul><li><strong>Xbox Wireless Controller themed around Forza Horizon 6, priced at $89.99, €89.99, and £84.99</strong></li><li><strong>Xbox Wireless Headset themed around Forza Horizon 6, priced at $134.99, €134.99, and £124.99</strong></li></ul><p>Would you be excited to see new limited edition accessories from Xbox? This brand regularly features on this site and in our <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/best-racing-wheel-xbox-series-x-series-s">Best Racing Wheels for Xbox</a> discussions.</p><p>While it&apos;s unclear how many products are affected by this issue, there&apos;s no indication yet that it has impacted Cronus or XIM accessories. Cronus and XIM accessories are controversial since they allow users to mimic a mouse and keyboard as an Xbox controller. This functionality provides them with a competitive edge in FPS games like Call of Duty, since they offer boosted turning speed and rapid-fire functionality without sacrificing aim assist. However, XIM and Cronus accessories have been used for accessibility purposes as well. As of right now, we haven&apos;t seen any evidence that these types of accessories will be affected by the recent changes since Xbox has historically been unable to detect them, but we&apos;re investigating. </p><h2 id="why-is-microsoft-doing-this">Why is Microsoft doing this?</h2><p>Our sources indicate that Microsoft is lifting restrictions on the ability for third-party hardware manufacturers to build wireless accessories for Xbox Series X|S devices. Indeed, this year we saw the <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/xbox/review-the-powera-moga-xp-ultra-is-an-xbox-controller-swiss-army-knife">PowerA MOGA XP-Ultra</a> launch, which is among the first official third-party wireless controllers that isn&apos;t simply a re-skinned Xbox standard controller, or a patent holder such as some of SCUF&apos;s accessories. </p><p>Excellent Xbox controllers like the <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/razer-wolverine-v2-xbox-controller-review">Razer Wolverine V2 Chroma</a> are let down solely by the fact they are wired. Microsoft previously had no easy path for third-party manufacturers to get wirelessness into their controllers, with only headsets getting approval via a special Microsoft security chip. Now, we&apos;re hearing that Microsoft does have an approval process for official third-party wireless controllers, and this new restriction may be a result of new security measures to put restrictions on inputs that could circumvent play or inject unfair advantages. </p><p>The downside, of course, is that Xbox&apos;s new policy is affecting many "fair" accessories, particularly in the case of fighting game joysticks and other similar accessories. </p><h2 id="will-this-affect-my-third-party-accessories">Will this affect my third-party accessories?</h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:4032px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="5ogmr6ajAYG2kW9vtivpZZ" name="20230310_105157.jpg" alt="LucidSound LS100x with USB dongle and charging cable" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5ogmr6ajAYG2kW9vtivpZZ.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="4032" height="2268" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Officially licensed products from third parties will remain unaffected </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Jennifer Young - Windows Central)</span></figcaption></figure><p>As long as you&apos;re using a product from manufacturers that have officially paid for the Xbox license, you should be in the clear. Wireless headsets already need a security chip approved by Microsoft to incorporate wirelessness on Xbox, but it seems this is now being extended more broadly to controllers and similar accessories too. For example, sounds that come from behind you in-game will come from the speaker that's behind you in your setup (or should sound like it's coming from behind you). The most effective forms of surround sound utilize positioned speaker towers, but hardware and software engineers have come up with clever ways to simulate the surround sound experience within headsets. There are two types of surround sound that are most commonly found in headsets: built-in 7.1 surround sound, and simulated surround sound that is activated by software like Windows Sonic.</p><p>The first one, 7.1 surround sound, is the higher-quality type of the two. Headsets with built-in 7.1 surround sound have speakers that are capable of delivering audio from different angles dynamically, similar to how a full speaker setup would. This is better than virtual simulated surround sound, which uses software to process your audio to <em>sound</em> like it's coming from different angles. Since the sound isn't really coming from your speakers dynamically, it's not as great as 7.1 surround sound. However, it's still great, and you'll notice the improvement.</p><h2 id="what-makes-the-astro-a50-the-best">What makes the Astro A50 the best?</h2><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="MoB3QNLKe3BHyPSMqiCn6C" name="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/MoB3QNLKe3BHyPSMqiCn6C.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/MoB3QNLKe3BHyPSMqiCn6C.jpg" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div></figure><p>The <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/astro-a50-wireless-headset-review" data-original-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/astro-a50-wireless-headset-review">Astro A50</a> is, overall, the best Xbox wireless headset where surround sound is concerned. All of this quality does come at the hefty price of $300, though. However, I would argue that you get what you pay for with this headset.</p><h2 id="what-39-s-a-good-alternative">What's a good alternative?</h2><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="ZNaYTkfHNKvMhtGr9S5CRJ" name="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ZNaYTkfHNKvMhtGr9S5CRJ.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ZNaYTkfHNKvMhtGr9S5CRJ.jpg" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div></figure><p>If the Astro A50 headset is too pricey for you, then the <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/turtle-beach-stealth-600-headset-review-xbox-wireless-audio-budget" data-original-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/turtle-beach-stealth-600-headset-review-xbox-wireless-audio-budget">Turtle Beach Stealth 600</a> is an absolutely glorious budget-friendly alternative. And it's only $50 more.</p><h2 id="stealth-600-vs-stealth-700-price-and-luxury">Stealth 600 vs. Stealth 700: Price and luxury</h2><p>When it comes to both sound and microphone quality, the Stealth 600 and 700 are the same. Both headsets have Turtle Beach's heavy-duty 50 mm drivers, which result in a great listening experience, especially if you have Windows Sonic or Dolby Atmos spatial sound enabled. The flip-up microphone on both headsets performs admirably as well, ensuring your voice chat in-game will always be clear. The differences between the Stealth 600 and 700 lie in the way they're built, and the features they have.</p><div ><table><thead><tr><th >Spec</th><th >Stealth 600</th><th >Stealth 700</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td >Speaker size</td><td >50 mm</td><td >50 mm</td></tr><tr><td >Speaker frequency response</td><td >20Hz to 20kHz</td><td >20Hz to 20kHz</td></tr><tr><td >Battery life</td><td >15 hours</td><td >10 hours</td></tr><tr><td >Headband and earpad material</td><td >Mesh fabric with foam cushion</td><td >Synthetic leather with foam cushion</td></tr><tr><td >Ear cushion</td><td >Mesh fabric with foam cushion</td><td >Bonded leather with foam cushion</td></tr><tr><td >Microphone</td><td >Flip-up omnidirectional</td><td >Flip-up omnidirectional</td></tr><tr><td >Features</td><td >Mic monitoring</td><td >Mic monitoring, active noise cancellation, and Bluetooth</td></tr></tbody></table></div><p>The Stealth 700 has leather incorporated into its design, which makes the headset more durable. In addition, the earcups are a little more spacious, which gives your ears some more breathing room and thus improves comfort. Feature-wise, both the Stealth 600 and the 700 have mic monitoring, but the 700 also has two additional functions: Bluetooth compatibility and active noise cancellation. The former allows you to use your Stealth 700 with your phone or with a compatible Windows 10 PC, while the latter effectively silences all noises outside of your headset with "blank noise." The Stealth 600 has an ace up its sleeve, however; by a five-hour margin, it has a stronger battery life than its counterpart.</p><h2 id="stealth-600-vs-stealth-700-which-should-you-buy">Stealth 600 vs. Stealth 700: Which should you buy?</h2><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="ZNaYTkfHNKvMhtGr9S5CRJ" name="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ZNaYTkfHNKvMhtGr9S5CRJ.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ZNaYTkfHNKvMhtGr9S5CRJ.jpg" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div></figure><p>Ultimately, the choice of which headset to choose will come down to whether or not you think a better build and more features are worth an extra $50. Additionally, it also has more space inside of its ear cups for a more comfortable wearing experience. The active noise cancellation can significantly help when it comes to blocking out external sounds, though this also means you won't be able to hear yourself speaking and you may accidentally yell. Thankfully, the Stealth 700 has mic monitoring, which will allow you to hear yourself speak through the noise cancellation. The microphone itself is great, and the fact you can use this headset with Windows Sonic means you can enjoy immersive, spatial sound in your games.</p><h2 id="should-you-buy-from-amazon-or-turtle-beach">Should you buy from Amazon or Turtle Beach?</h2><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="GgQKtTcComJi5amm77q7h9" name="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/GgQKtTcComJi5amm77q7h9.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/GgQKtTcComJi5amm77q7h9.jpg" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div></figure><p>Ultimately, the decision between buying from Amazon or Turtle Beach should come down to your needs and personal preference. Both retailers offer the Stealth 700 at an equal price and both of them offer free shipping, so the main differences between the two come down to delivery speed and payment options.</p><p>Amazon will be the better choice if you want a quick delivery since they have warehouses all around the United States. This means that there's likely one near or even in your state, which in turn increases the chance that you'll get your headset faster than you would if you bought from the Turtle Beach website. However, the Turtle Beach site has a payment plan option that allows you to avoid paying the flat $150. Instead, you can pay in three increments of $50, spread out monthly, and with no interest. This is a fantastic option if you want to avoid spending a large sum of money all at once for the Stealth 700.</p> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_horizontal" data-id="32344edd-b332-4d51-8a7b-53576fc7b667"> <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Stealth-Wireless-Surround-Gaming-Headset/dp/B072M6WZSY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1548549515&sr=8-1&keywords=turtle%2Bbeach%2Bstealth%2B600%2Bheadset&th=1&tag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUwpUdUnU62004" data-model-name="Turtle Beach Stealth 700" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:56.25%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/78gNAURkJRf9HpAYVAhPAd.jpg" alt=""></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <span class='featured__label horizontal__label'>Wireless power</span> <div class="featured__title">Turtle Beach Stealth 700</div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p><p><strong><em>Reliable and efficient</em></strong><br/></p><p>The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 wireless headset is a fantastic piece of kit for Xbox One that will serve you well no matter what.</p></p> </div> </div> </div>

The <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/turtle-beach-stealth-600-headset-review-xbox-wireless-audio-budget" data-original-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/turtle-beach-stealth-600-headset-review-xbox-wireless-audio-budget">Turtle Beach Stealth 600</a> is one of the best mid-range wireless headsets available for Xbox One users due to its solid sound quality, Windows Sonic compatibility, excellent battery life, and clear microphone quality.</p><p>It has a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz, which is respectable, albeit not top-notch. This less-than-stellar performance, though, is pleasantly offset by the fact the headset can work with Windows Sonic on Xbox One, which gives users the ability to toggle immersive spatial sound. In addition, the Stealth 600 has a 15-hour battery life on full charge, which is a fantastic amount of time. Lastly, the microphone on the Stealth 600 is great, offering a performance that can go toe-to-toe with more expensive headsets.</p><h2 id="should-you-buy-from-amazon-or-turtle-beach-2">Should you buy from Amazon or Turtle Beach?</h2><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="ZNaYTkfHNKvMhtGr9S5CRJ" name="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ZNaYTkfHNKvMhtGr9S5CRJ.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ZNaYTkfHNKvMhtGr9S5CRJ.jpg" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div></figure><p>At the end of the day, both Amazon and Turtle Beach are great retailers to get the Stealth 600 from since they both offer free shipping. Neither of them are really <em>better</em>, so it mostly comes down to your personal needs and preferences. Amazon is the better retailer when it comes to shipping quickly because they have a large collection of warehouses spread out around the country, so there's likely one close to or even in your state. This is especially true if you use <a href="https://www.amazon.com/amazonprime?_encoding=UTF8&%2AVersion%2A=1&%2Aentries%2A=0&tag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUwpUdUnU62003" title="" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" class="speciallink">Amazon Prime</a>, since you can get free two-day shipping.</p><p>Turtle Beach, however, is the better option when it comes to payment options. Unlike Amazon, where you have to pay the flat $100, Turtle Beach allows you to break up your purchase into three interest-free monthly payments. This is a fantastic option if you need to avoid spending a large sum of money at once.</p> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_horizontal" data-id="51bc8990-a734-4a09-88fe-0f93e7ec366c"> <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Stealth-Wireless-Surround-Gaming-Headset/dp/B071ZRTMXF/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1548549515&sr=8-1&keywords=turtle%2Bbeach%2Bstealth%2B600%2Bheadset&th=1&tag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUwpUdUnU62003" data-model-name="Turtle Beach Stealth 600" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:56.25%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/4B3ED6ZCPab9455UqL8Rs6.jpg" alt=""></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <span class='featured__label horizontal__label'>Wireless excellence</span> <div class="featured__title">Turtle Beach Stealth 600</div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p><p><strong><em>High quality performance, low price</em></strong><br/></p><p>The Turtle Beach Stealth 600 is one of the Xbox One's best wireless headsets, and it costs less than most of its competition. The update contains a single fix that improves the reliability of the Xbox Wireless Adapter, which lets you connect a wireless controller to your PC (via <a href="https://www.neowin.net/news/surface-studio-gets-a-firmware-update-for-xbox-wireless-adapter-reliability">Neowin</a>).</p><p>Here's a look at the <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4023490/surface-surface-studio-update-history" title="" rel="nofollow">official release notes</a>:</p><ul><li>Xbox – Network adapters – 1.0.45.4: Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows – Network adapters – 1.0.45.4 improves reliability of the Xbox Wireless Adapter.</li></ul><p>This is the first firmware update for the Surface Studio since January and, according to the Surface Update tracker, it began rolling out on May 4. <p>Six months after it was first announced, Microsoft's new, slimmer Xbox Wireless Adapter is now up for grabs in the U.S. The new stick, which sports a much smaller profile than its predecessor, is available <a href="https://click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=kXQk6%2AivFEQ&mid=24542&u1=UUwpUdUnU53866&murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fstore%2Fd%2Fxbox-wireless-adapter-for-windows-10%2F91dqrb97l130" title="" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">for $24.99 in the Microsoft Store</a> (via <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2018/2/1/16961210/microsoft-xbox-wireless-adapter-available">The Verge</a>).</p><p>The original Xbox Wireless Adapter, released in 2015, was rather large and unwieldy, making it sometimes difficult to fit alongside other USB dongles and downright comical-looking when plugged into something like an Ultrabook. The newer adapter is 66 percent smaller than the original, which should make for a much better fit for most setups.</p><p>Like the prior version, the new Xbox Wireless Adapter supports Microsoft's proprietary "<a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/xbox-wireless" data-original-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/xbox-wireless">Xbox Wireless</a>" communication protocol, allowing you to add it to any PC. With support for up to eight connections on a single device, you can use the adapter to connect your existing wireless Xbox One controllers to your PC setup. That's not likely a concern for anyone taking advantage of the Bluetooth connectivity on newer Xbox One controllers. However, the adapter is a solid solution for anyone using older devices or controllers without Bluetooth.</p><p>It's worth noting that this new adapter only works with <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10" data-original-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10">Windows 10</a>, so you'll have to stick with the older version if you're using a Windows 8 or 7 PC. However, if you want to grab one for yourself, the adapter is now available for $24.99. <p>While Microsoft continues to converge its experiences across Xbox One and <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10" data-original-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10">Windows 10</a>, programs like <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/xbox-play-anywhere-faq" data-original-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/xbox-play-anywhere-faq">Play Anywhere</a> are proving how unified platforms can be beneficial to both the consumers and the company itself. "Xbox Wireless" shows this philosophy being applied to accessories too, building a hardware ecosystem between Microsoft's two flagship gaming platforms. Here's everything you need to know about Xbox Wireless, and its benefits to you as a gamer. </p><h2 id="what-is-xbox-wireless">What is Xbox Wireless?</h2><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="5HjN2C3vFyDEjzbsrshqC5" name="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5HjN2C3vFyDEjzbsrshqC5.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5HjN2C3vFyDEjzbsrshqC5.jpg" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div></figure><p>"Xbox Wireless" is a proprietary protocol developed by Microsoft for connecting accessories to Xbox One consoles. Like Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Direct, Xbox Wireless enables controllers and select headsets to establish a direct wireless connection with the console, while avoiding the complexities that come with adapters or physical cabling.</p><p>The protocol first made its debut back with the Xbox One. It served as the unbranded technology for connecting controllers to the console. Microsoft later expanded its capabilities while ushering in the Xbox Wireless name, embracing the technology as its protocol for premium wireless gaming. This also led to an expansion to Windows devices via an official adapter, allowing Xbox accessories to be used on PC.</p><p>Today Microsoft now refers to Xbox Wireless as an ecosystem for its licensed accessories, marketing the protocol for its seamless wireless experience across its platforms. With third-party manufacturers starting to release "Xbox Wireless" devices, both Xbox One and PC can hook into the lineup of accessories.</p><h2 id="using-xbox-wireless-on-xbox-one-and-windows-10">Using Xbox Wireless on Xbox One and Windows 10</h2><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="hdJSodgCeekuYiwJYquynY" name="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/hdJSodgCeekuYiwJYquynY.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/hdJSodgCeekuYiwJYquynY.jpg" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div></figure><p>If an Xbox One owner, you've likely been using Xbox Wireless for years without even knowing it. The radio frequency (RF) module embedded inside all Xbox One consoles taps into this protocol and is used to connect to most wireless accessories. While infrared (IR) and Wi-Fi Direct are used for connecting some devices, this is the sole way of connecting controllers wirelessly. Xbox Wireless devices can be connected to an Xbox One system using the "Sync" button located on the front of the console.</p><p>Over on PC, connecting Xbox Wireless accessories is a little more challenging. The proprietary nature of Xbox Wireless means an official adapter is required, which will <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU?tag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUwpUdUnU52539" title="" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" class="speciallink">set you back $24.99</a>. However, for that price you'll be getting support for eight controllers and their accompanying headsets, which should be more than enough for any gaming session.</p><p>The form factor of the current Xbox Wireless Adapter isn't exactly elegant. Thankfully, a <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/new-xbox-wireless-adapter-review" data-original-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/new-xbox-wireless-adapter-review">revised version of the Xbox Wireless Adapter</a> is set to release in the U.S. next year, which cuts the adapter's size down to a third of the original. Select devices are also offering integrated Xbox Wireless chips, though this is currently limited to a subset of pre-built PCs.</p><p><a href="https://click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=kXQk6%2AivFEQ&mid=24542&u1=UUwpUdUnU52539&murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fstore%2Fd%2Fxbox-wireless-adapter-for-windows%2F9296x0gtwpdj" title="" class="cta shop no-amazon" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">See Xbox Wireless Adapter at Microsoft</a></p><h2 id="why-use-xbox-wireless">Why use Xbox Wireless?</h2><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="cFREckFnGEMtvbzQE9nG7Q" name="" alt="Xbox One Controller" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/cFREckFnGEMtvbzQE9nG7Q.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/cFREckFnGEMtvbzQE9nG7Q.jpg" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=""><span class="caption-text">Xbox One Controller </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Windows Central)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Existing wireless technologies are available for gaming accessories, but Microsoft opted to develop its own protocol for further flexibility. Building a device offering around its own specification allows accessories to offer unique functionality while tying hardware down to its ecosystem.</p><p>Utilizing a higher frequency connection than traditional 2.4 GHz Bluetooth, on paper, Xbox Wireless promises a higher bandwidth connection for accessories. This, in turn, reduces latency, which can shave off vital milliseconds in competitive titles. The effects of this are mostly undetectable but should guarantee a stable connection for hardcore players.</p><p>Xbox Wireless is also able to transmit wireless stereo audio, which is used for dedicated Xbox Wireless headsets. This means the Xbox One controller's integrated 3.5mm jack can also be used as an audio output too, which isn't available over a Bluetooth connection. <p>A range of new headsets are in the works for Xbox One and Windows 10 to take advantage of the new Xbox Wireless protocol, and Turtle Beach is among the first out of the gate.</p><p>The Stealth 700 is a brand new Xbox-focused headset, which also works with Windows 10 PCs that either have Bluetooth, Xbox Wireless built-in (like the <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/surface-book-2">Surface Book 2 15-incher</a>, or that use the Xbox Wireless USB dongle, which is set for <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/new-xbox-wireless-adapter-review">its own miniaturized refresh in early 2018</a>.</p><p>At first, I had some major signal problems with the headset, but after updating the firmware, I discovered a wonderfully versatile, powerful, and affordable wireless headset. This is our Turtle Beach Stealth 700 review. </p><p><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Stealth-Premium-Wireless-Surround-Headset/dp/B072M6WZSY?tag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUwpUdUnU51975" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">See at Amazon</a></p><h2 id="turtle-beach-stealth-700-specs">Turtle Beach Stealth 700 specs</h2><div ><table><thead><tr><th class="firstcol " >Category</th><th >Spec</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td class="firstcol " >Audio Connection</td><td >Direct Wireless Connection (3.5mm)</td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " >Speaker frequency response</td><td >20Hz-20kHz</td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " >Headset Power</td><td >Battery</td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " >Battery</td><td >Up to 10 Hours</td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " >Speaker size</td><td >50mm with Neodymium Magnets</td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " >Microphone</td><td >Flip-up omni-directional</td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " >Headband/earpad material</td><td >Synthetic leather with foam cushion</td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " >Ear cushion</td><td >Bonded leather with foam cushion</td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " >In the box</td><td >Headset and USB cable</td></tr><tr><td class="firstcol " >Price</td><td >$149.95</td></tr></tbody></table></div><h2 id="turtle-beach-stealth-700-design-comfort-and-durability">Turtle Beach Stealth 700 design, comfort, and durability</h2><p>The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 sports a familiar design, particularly if you're used to previous Stealth headsets from the company, namely the Stealth 420. The headband is made of plastic, with a small but comfortable bonded leather cushion along the inside of the top part. Both headphones can be adjusted to suit larger or smaller heads as usual, and the earphones themselves can rotate and pivot, ensuring a snug fit around your head.</p><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="XCHnUsg2tLx4mSAAyn3rbD" name="" alt="Turtle Beach Stealth 700 (2018)" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/XCHnUsg2tLx4mSAAyn3rbD.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="0" height="0" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div></figure><p>Speaking of bonded leather, the cups on the Stealth 700 feel like the Stealth 420+. They're comfortable and airy and haven't gotten clammy for me even in long gaming sessions. They fit over your ear and isolate sound pretty well.</p><p>The plastics used are a little on the lower-end, but that's to be expected at this price point. The headset doesn't feel as dense as Turtle Beach's more expensive <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/turtle-beach-elite-pro-tournament-headset-review">Elite Pro range</a>, but it feels sturdy enough to last a decent amount of punishment. The headband itself is quite malleable.</p><p>The headset uses a combination of matte and gloss plastics to produce its look, with a unique angled hinge for each ear cup. The left side has a small flip microphone that fits smartly against the angle of the hinge when not in use. This position also mutes the mic, which is a nice touch.</p><p>The buttons and controls are all on the left side, with two volume controls for chat and audio, a button for Turtle Beach's "Superhuman Hearing" mode, Bluetooth pairing, and power. Each button has a different symbol printed on it, which makes it easy to figure out which one you're pressing. However, they're coated in a rough rubbery material that is frustratingly prone to picking up smudges and dust, and it's quite hard to clean.</p><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="GgQKtTcComJi5amm77q7h9" name="" alt="Turtle Beach Stealth 700 (2018)" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/GgQKtTcComJi5amm77q7h9.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="0" height="0" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div></figure><p>Finally, there's a separate Xbox Wireless pairing button, also coated in rubber. The actual "click" required to activate the button is buried far below the rubber, however.</p><p>Overall, the Stealth 700's unique angular design gives it a distinct look among the company's other headsets, producing a style that marries functionality and design. As a budget headset, don't expect the most expensive materials or a reassuringly dense construction, but it feels sturdy enough to last a long time.</p><h2 id="turtle-beach-stealth-700-audio">Turtle Beach Stealth 700 audio</h2><p>Turtle Beach put their 50-mm drivers into this headset, and they pack a punch. While the audio is lacking some of the customizability found in Turtle Beach's more expensive headsets, this one provides nice all-around sound right out of the box.</p><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="k2fBgTJ7T2PSucoSoC94JQ" name="" alt="Turtle Beach Stealth 700 (2018)" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/k2fBgTJ7T2PSucoSoC94JQ.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="0" height="0" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div></figure><p>Good surround sound headsets have helped me gain an edge in shooters. I've gotten kills as a direct result of being able to hear the positions of enemies, and for that, I tend to turn to headsets with some form of virtual surround sound, like DTS 7.1 found in <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/turtle-beach-elite-pro-tournament-headset-review">Turtle Beach's Elite Pro Tournament</a> range. However, recently Microsoft has offered its own version of "spatial audio," dubbed Windows Sonic, and that's what is advertised on the box with the Stealth 700.</p><p>I'm not a huge fan of Windows Sonic for music, but it's surprisingly competent for gaming. You're losing out on some of the richness and clarity with this cheaper set, but Windows Sonic helps them punch well above their weight, especially in games. For music, they have a tinny quality that can obscure some finer instrumental details, but they're by no means <em>bad.</em></p><p>You see, these are wireless. There's no dock, and no dongle to speak of (OK, you <em>do</em> have to charge them with a cable, but we're nearly there). When I first set the headset up, I got some weird pitch-bending issues and intermittent connectivity. They utilize Xbox Wireless to connect directly to the box, similarly to your controllers. While we've been using this tech for our gamepads for years, the implementation of audio is relatively new.</p><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="s7fE7kHmkSpMeEZghu8R7M" name="" alt="Turtle Beach Stealth 700 (2018)" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/s7fE7kHmkSpMeEZghu8R7M.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="0" height="0" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div></figure><p>After having some issues, I decided to heed the instruction's advice to update the headset's firmware. Thankfully, all my issues evaporated as a result.</p><div><blockquote><p>At this price point, it's hard to fault the quality of the audio in the Stealth 700.</p></blockquote></div><p>I had <em>far</em> more issues with the Stealth 700 on my Windows PC, however, attempting to utilize the Bluetooth feature. Whether the issue was the headset or my Razer laptop, I'm not sure, but Windows simply didn't like the drivers that the headset installed once I'd paired it. While it worked at first, as soon as I opened the Volume Mixer, it actually <em>crashed</em> the Windows shell, which is impressive (in a bad way). The headset's Bluetooth feature worked perfectly well with my phone, however, so I'm guessing there are just some issues with the Windows driver.</p><p>The headset comes with active noise cancellation too, which is a nice benefit if you're looking to be fully immersed without any background noise. On the downside, though, you may find yourself inadvertently yelling, as you won't be able to hear your own voice. This headset is listed as having mic monitoring and recording feedback, so you can hear yourself speak and prevent yourself from yelling. But despite turning it up to maximum volume in the firmware software, I simply couldn't hear myself, which is a shame. On the plus side, those I grouped with said I sounded crystal clear on the other end.</p><p><strong>Update, March 27, 2018:</strong> Since writing about the Stealth 700's lack of mic monitoring, Turtle Beach issued a firmware update to fix this issue. <p>In 2015, Microsoft unveiled the Xbox Wireless Adapter, an external USB accessory for connecting Xbox One controllers to a <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10" data-original-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10">Windows 10</a> PC. Supporting up to eight devices, it was a quick and easy solution for PC gamers looking to take advantage of the Xbox One's wireless capabilities, without the requirement for a physical connection over micro USB.</p><p>A few months ago, a successor to the wireless dongle was <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/xbox-wireless-adapter-windows-10-just-got-three-times-smaller" data-original-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/xbox-wireless-adapter-windows-10-just-got-three-times-smaller">unveiled</a>, promising to offer the same feature set in a smaller and much more refined form factor. The device won't make its way to the <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/new-xbox-wireless-adapter-windows-10-delayed-until-2018-united-states" data-original-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/new-xbox-wireless-adapter-windows-10-delayed-until-2018-united-states">U.S. until 2018</a>, but we spent some time with this revised accessory.</p><p>After its unveiling, it soon emerged that most markets will have to wait until next year to buy this gadget, with a staggered rollout beginning in select Asian markets. We managed to secure one of these adapters from Korea, prior to the U.S. debut scheduled for January 2018.</p><ul><li><a href="https://click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=kXQk6%2AivFEQ&mid=24542&u1=UUwpUdUnU51814&murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.xbox.com%2Fen-US%2Fxbox-one%2Faccessories%2Fadapters%2Fwireless-adapter-windows" title="" class="cta shop no-amazon" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">See at Xbox</a></li><li><a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-One/dp/B00ZQW91DE/?tag=hawk-future-21&ascsubtag=UUwpUdUnU51814" title="" class="cta shop speciallink" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">See old Xbox Wireless Adapter at Amazon</a></li></ul><h2 id="design-smaller-and-sleeker">Design: Smaller and sleeker</h2><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="EeAcGdVBhutoxyQay8YymS" name="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/EeAcGdVBhutoxyQay8YymS.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/EeAcGdVBhutoxyQay8YymS.jpg" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div></figure><p>Upon first getting started with the latest Xbox Wireless Adapter, the first thing you'll notice is that it's <em>very</em> small, especially in comparison to its predecessor. According to Microsoft, the latest revision comes in at 66 percent of the original's volume, which significantly reduces its overall footprint. Every dimension of the adapter has been reduced – the most significant is its length, with nearly 40 mm off the casing protruding from the USB port.</p><p>The redesign feels like a significant evolution, with refinements in almost every aspect of its design. The "Sync" button used to connect controllers has been moved from the side and now fits seamlessly into the rear of the design. The Xbox name on the side has been ditched, instead opting for a much subtler standalone Xbox logo. And while a plastic outer casing still exists, condensing its internals makes for a denser and weightier feel in relation to its size, resulting in a premium feel. Oh, and you get a cute cap to cover the USB connector.</p><p>This refinement is what makes the new Xbox Wireless Adapter so compelling as a versatile solution for using Xbox controllers on PC. This is especially true for gaming on the go, essentially offering the same functionality at almost half the length of the original. After the first version of the adapter was blasted for its cumbersome dimensions, this second take is much more suitable for laptop and tablet use.</p><h2 id="performance-bring-together-your-favorite-devices">Performance: Bring together your favorite devices</h2><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="gSu2HEzaE5uSTcn5Y6mvdE" name="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/gSu2HEzaE5uSTcn5Y6mvdE.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/gSu2HEzaE5uSTcn5Y6mvdE.jpg" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div></figure><p>Like the original, the adapter allows you to connect up to eight Xbox controllers at a single time, over Microsoft's proprietary "Xbox Wireless" protocol. This technology has been used in controllers since the release of the Xbox One and remains its sole method of connecting wireless accessories. Microsoft has slowly been expanding the Xbox Wireless ecosystem over the years, with support for stereo headsets, joysticks, and other accessories. Using the Xbox Wireless adapter allows PCs to hook into this ecosystem of devices, with more than just controllers supported.</p><p>Following the size reduction, I had worries about the device's range – especially with the same functionality being offered in a smaller form factor. In our testing, we found the adapter offers a mostly comparable range to its larger counterpart, even surpassing a staggering 40 meters in an open environment. Range and latency are clearly still maintained, even with the internals having been drastically reduced.</p><h2 id="final-thoughts-on-the-new-xbox-wireless-adapter">Final thoughts on the new Xbox Wireless Adapter</h2><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="X2r7c4PBLdvkxN8EuZyF9g" name="" alt="Xbox Wireless Adapter" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/X2r7c4PBLdvkxN8EuZyF9g.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/X2r7c4PBLdvkxN8EuZyF9g.jpg" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=""><span class="caption-text">Xbox Wireless Adapter </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Windows Central)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Since the release of the first Xbox Wireless Adapter, a lot has changed across the Xbox ecosystem. In this time, select premium Windows 10 PCs, including the <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/surface-studio" data-original-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/surface-studio">Surface Studio</a> and <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/surface-book-2" data-original-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/surface-book-2">Surface Book 2</a>, have offered integrated support for Xbox Wireless. Furthermore, Microsoft has also begun to include Bluetooth support across its recent controllers, offering compatibility without this additional accessory.</p><p>The relevance of this adapter has somewhat diminished in recent years – especially those who use Xbox controllers on Windows PCs for infrequent casual gaming. Bluetooth for this use is still inferior on paper, with variations in performance and a lack of impulse trigger support, though for many, justifying the adapter is now a lot harder in 2017.</p><p>The new Xbox Wireless Adapter offers some major improvements over its predecessor, surpassing the original model in almost regard. With identical functionality and an unchanged retail price, those looking to take advantage of Xbox Wireless on a PC should look no further; this is a great accessory with some welcome refinements.</p><p>If you're only using Xbox One controllers for fleeting gaming sessions, this accessory may be better avoided. While it is a great piece of kit for those looking to take full advantage of Xbox accessories away from the living room, the benefits over Bluetooth are still scarce for exclusive controller use.</p><p>The new Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 is currently on track for a U.S. release on January 31, 2018. The device is currently expected to cost $24.99.</p><ul><li><a href="https://click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=kXQk6%2AivFEQ&mid=24542&u1=UUwpUdUnU51814&murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.xbox.com%2Fen-US%2Fxbox-one%2Faccessories%2Fadapters%2Fwireless-adapter-windows" title="" class="cta shop no-amazon" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">See at Xbox</a></li><li><a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-One/dp/B00ZQW91DE/?tag=hawk-future-21&ascsubtag=UUwpUdUnU51814" title="" class="cta shop speciallink" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">See old Xbox Wireless Adapter at Amazon</a></li></ul>

<p>Microsoft has unveiled the latest revision of the Xbox Wireless Adapter – its official USB accessory for connecting Xbox One controllers to Windows PCs. Improving on the original model first introduced in 2015, the new adapter comes in at 66 percent smaller or in other words, a third of the size.</p><p>Like the original, the new Xbox Wireless adapter adds support for Microsoft's proprietary "Xbox Wireless" communication protocol to any Windows 10 PC. Allowing for up to eight Xbox One controllers on a single device, the dongle is a quick and easily solution to add your existing wireless gamepads to a PC.</p><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="fxeJtKr4pSep3kpA9KmYZN" name="" alt="Xbox Wireless Adapter" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/fxeJtKr4pSep3kpA9KmYZN.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/fxeJtKr4pSep3kpA9KmYZN.jpg" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=""><span class="caption-text">Xbox Wireless Adapter </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Microsoft)</span></figcaption></figure><p>One of the major critiques of the adapter's first revision was its form factor – protruding three inches from a USB port. While this was a valid solution for desktops, the sheer size proved to be problematic with laptops and other small-form PCs. With the latest version shrunk down to a third of the size, this should be especially appealing for gaming on the go.</p><p>It also appears that this revision has dropped support Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 PCs – a feature previously offered by the original adapter. After previous public outcry for the first adapter's Windows 10 exclusivity, Microsoft <a href="https://www.windowscentral.com/xbox-wireless-adapter-now-lets-windows-7-and-81-pc-gamers-use-xbox-one-controller" data-original-url="https://www.windowscentral.com/xbox-wireless-adapter-now-lets-windows-7-and-81-pc-gamers-use-xbox-one-controller">manually added compatibility</a> for earlier versions of its operating system after launch.</p><p>The latest version of the Xbox Wireless Adapter will soon be available for preorder, via the Microsoft Store. Priced similarly to the original, the device will begin shipping for $24.99 in the United States, from August 8. The adapter will also be available <a href="https://click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=kXQk6%2AivFEQ&mid=24542&u1=UUwpUdUnU49861&murl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.xbox.com%2Fen-GB%2Fxbox-one%2Faccessories%2Fcontrollers%2Fwireless-controller-adapter-windows" title="" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">bundled alongside a controller</a>, priced at $79.99. Other markets will see the smaller design, although these are yet to be specified.</p><p><a href="https://click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=kXQk6%2AivFEQ&mid=24542&u1=UUwpUdUnU49861&murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fstore%2Fd%2Fxbox-wireless-adapter-for-windows-10%2F91DQRB97L130" title="" class="cta shop no-amazon" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Preorder at Microsoft Store</a></p>
