Final Fantasy IX joins Xbox Play Anywhere

A few months ago, Square Enix announced that it was bringing a slew of old Final Fantasy games to Xbox One and other platforms. Today, the company released Final Fantasy IX for the console. The best part is that it supports Xbox Play Anywhere. This means that you only have to purchase the game once — either on Xbox One or Windows 10 — and can play it on whichever device you want.

Final Fantasy IX costs $21 on the Microsoft Store. Unfortunately, it doesn't feature Xbox One X enhancements. Since the titles are quite old, they probably won't be upgraded for Microsoft's latest console.

Selling over five million copies since its release in 2000, Final Fantasy IX proudly returns on Xbox One and PC! Experience the adventure once again with characters and prerendered high-definition cutscenes, as well as a new booster system. Zidane and the Tantalus Theater Troupe have kidnapped Princess Garnet, the heir of Alexandria. To their surprise, however, the princess herself wanted to escape the castle. Through a series of unusual circumstances, she and her personal guard, Steiner, team up with with Zidane and set out on an incredible journey.

Final Fantasy IX garnered incredible reviews when it launched all those years ago, and it's great to see the title landing on Xbox One and Windows 10. Hopefully gamers will find that it still holds up even to this day. Did you play Final Fantasy IX all those years ago? Let us know.
