Five 2 in 1 laptops to keep on your radar

It can be tricky figuring out what kind of computer you need, but the latest generation of hybrid computers offer a ton of flexibility. In some cases, our picks are little more than laptops with a reversible hinge, while others are more tablets with ample keyboard covers, but whatever the case, these computers can handle daily tasks like a champ, no matter your circumstances.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3

The Surface Pro 3 is the grand-daddy of Windows tablets. It's just as much a laptop replacement as it is a tablet, thanks in no small part to its generous 12-inch 2160 x 1440 display, adjustable stand, smart keyboard cover, and full-sized USB 3.0 port. That said, the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is priced in line with laptops rather than most tablets. The Surface Pro 3 also offers an active stylus accessory that's perfect for freehand note-taking and sketches.

Toshiba Satellite Radius

The Toshiba Satellite Radius is a stylish two-in-one budget laptop. The reversible hinge allows you to prop the laptop up as a stand, in a tent configuration, flat as a tablet, or the classic layout with the keyboard in front. The Intel Celeron processor clocks up to 2.58 GHz when the SpeedStep feature is activated. 4 GB of RAM are tucked away alongside a 500 GB hard drive. Two USB ports, HDMI-out, and SD card reader round out the connectivity side of things. The screen measures 11.6 inches, keeping it fairly portable, and offers native 720p resolution.

Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro

The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is a flexible, light laptop that offers a variety of layouts. Prop it up as a tent, fold back the keyboard to have it as a stand, bend it all the way back for one-handed use, or keep the keyboard in front as a traditional laptop. As it stands, the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is the thinnest convertible ultrabook in the world at half an inch thick and 2.6 pounds. The 13.3-inch touchscreen offers a 3200 x 1800 resolution, and includes a front-facing camera for your video calls. Under the hood is a 1.2 GHz Core M processor with a generous 8 GB of RAM. Storage includes a 256 GB SSD, plus whatever you plug into the two USB 3.0 ports, or integrated SD card reader. The Yoga 3 Pro is great, but Lenovo's got an even lighter laptop coming out this spring.

ASUS Transformer Book T100

ASUS Transformer Book T100

Though the ASUS Transformer Book T100 is a little old, its low price point remains very attractive. 2 GB of RAM, a quad-core 1.3 GHz Bay Trail Intel Atom processor, and 64 GB of storage are tucked inside this little package, and the detachable 10.1-inch touch-sensitive display offers a 1366 x 768 resolution. The battery life rolls in at a respectable 10 hours, which should handle even busier days. As for inputs, you'll have access to three USB portsm microSD cards, and microHDMI. Keep in mind that a new version in a variety of size options is on the way.

Acer Aspire R 13

Acer Aspire R 13

The Acer Aspire R 13 is a solid ultrabook-grade convertible laptop. It has a hinge-mounted 13.3-inch 1920 x 1080 touch display, a 128 GB hard drive, 8 GB of RAM, and a dual-core 1.7 GHz Intel i5 processor (though that can be upgraded to i7 2.4 GHz, depending on how much you want to spend). The Aspire R13 is a little over 3 pounds, and 0.7 inches thick, which is good enough for anybody on the move. An optional active stylus is available for those that like to doodle, too.
