What you need to know

  • Halo: The Master Chief Collection is headed to PC, starting with Halo: Reach.
  • Early tests are slated for "next week," via the Halo Insider Program and Steam.

Work remains underway on the PC debut of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, bringing the six-part compilation of Microsoft's flagship shooter to the mouse and keyboard. While on track for Steam and Windows 10 later in 2019, early access testing lies on the horizon starting with 2010 prequel, Halo: Reach. Continued internal delays pushed the title beyond its initial April target, now expected sometime "next week."

Hands-on: Halo: Reach PC revives Microsoft's legendary titan in 4K glory

Halo: The Master Chief Collection's PC arrival hasn't transpired without setbacks, requiring additional time to nail down controls and stability. Taking the official Halo Waypoint blog, 343 Industries Community Coordinator, John Junyszek, has provided the latest update on its new flighting roadmap.

If everything goes according to plan, our first flight for Halo: Reach on MCC PC will be next week to a small subsection of registered Halo Insiders. We're starting more modestly because we've got quite a few levers to pull and we want to ensure our delivery pipeline runs smoothly, our communications are clear, and that participants can properly provide their feedback on the build.

We recently got hands-on with Halo: Reach at E3 2019, highlighting what's rapidly shaping up as a refined and tailored PC experience. The bump to 4K resolution at 60 FPS brings out the best of Bungie's final farewell to the series, with bespoke controls offering a natural shift away from the console gamepad.

Players eager to get started with Halo: Reach can register for the Halo Insider Program, granting early access to Halo: Reach and Halo Infinite on Xbox One and PC. In the meantime, existing applicants can stay on the lookout to initial PC builds in the week ahead.
