HP brings leather and great battery life to its EliteBook business lineup

What you need to know

  • HP showed off a fresh set of updates to its business EliteBook lineup at Computex 2019.
  • Taking a cue from HP's work on the Spectre Folio, the new Elite x2 G4 sports a leather-clad detachable keyboard.
  • If you're into squeaking out every last bit of battery on the go, the EliteBook x360 1040 G6 sports up to 24 hours of battery life.

HP took to Computex 2019 with a load of new stuff to show off, but some of the most impressive additions were to its business EliteBook lineup. All told, HP is adding a bit of leather and some extra-long battery life to portions of its updated EliteBook 1000 series.

First up is the new Elite x2 G4, which borrows from the Spectre Folio to bring a leather finish to the detachable keyboard. Available with up to an Intel Core i7-8665U vPro processor, 16GB of RAM, and 2TB of storage, the Elite x2 G4 sports displays ranging from 12.3 inches to 13 inches, maxing out at a 3000x2000 resolution.

Because it's built for business users on the go, the Elite x2 G4 also includes HP's usual round of enhanced security features. Those include an integrated dual-camera privacy shutter and a privacy screen to prevent prying eyes from viewing your work. Also tagging along here is 4G LTE connectivity.

On the traditional laptop side of things, HP has rolled out the EliteBook x360 1040 G6. At 14 inches, the laptop comes in at under three pounds and the display can be rotated between laptop and tablet modes. That 14-inch display is available in 4K and is also designed to be viewed outdoors with clarity thanks to a maximum brightness of 1000 nits.

Impressively, HP touts the EliteBook x360 1040 G6's battery life at up to 24 hours. That lengthy battery life is complemented by up to 32GB of RAM, up to 2TB of SSD storage, and up to an Intel Core i7-8665U vPro processor.

Again, HP's usual array of security features are packed in here, including AI-trained anti-malware tech, a built-in privacy camera, and a privacy screen. HP has also tucked in 4G LTE connectivity for when you need to work on the go.

Rounding out the EliteBook line is the new x360 1030 G4, which is a smaller, lighter version of the 1040 G6. The 13.3-inch display can be equipped with resolutions ranging up to 4K, while the RAM is capped at 16GB. Otherwise, you'll find the same features as the 1040 G6 here.

The HP Elite x2 G4 is expected to launch in August, with a starting price of $1,500. The EliteBook x360 1040 G6 and 1030 G4, meanwhile, are expected to launch in July starting at $1,500 and $1,450, respectively.

Affordable accessories that'll pair perfectly with your PC

Every one of these awesome PC accessories will enhance your everyday experience — and none cost more than $30.

KLIM Aim RGB gaming mouse ($30 at Amazon)

Whether you're a gamer or not, this is an absurdly good mouse for the price. It's ambidextrous, has a responsive sensor, a braided cable, tank-like build quality, and, yes, it has RGB lighting, though you can turn it off if that's not your thing.

AmazonBasics USB speakers ($16 at Amazon)

These neat little speakers may only pack 2.4W of total power, but don't let that fool you. For something so small you get a well-rounded sound and a stylish design. And they only cost $16.

Razer mouse bungee ($20 at Amazon)

Use a wired mouse? You need a mouse bungee to keep your cable tidy and free of snags. You get no drag on the cable, and this one has subtle styling, a rust-resistant spring and a weighted base, all for $20.
