John Romero's BLACKROOM Kickstarter canceled to work on gameplay demo

DOOM and Quake co-creator John Romero has canceled his Kickstarter fund raising campaign for the upcoming Windows and Mac first person shooter BLACKROOM. Romero claims they will launch the campaign again after they create a gameplay demo.

The Kickstarter campaign launched on Monday and before its cancellation it had raised just over $131,000 of its $700,000 goal. However, Romero told Develop that he and his team at Night Work Games had received comments that backers wanted to see the game in action:

"All the comments we've heard from people say that they want to see some gameplay," Romero told Develop. "They like the idea, they think it's really cool but they want to see some of it." A demo is already in the works, but isn't due to be finished before the Kickstarter campaign ends. While Romero acknowledged that the team could "work around the clock" to do so, entering such levels of crunch is "not what we do".

Romero believes it will take "one to two months" to create the BLACKROOM demo, after which they will relaunch the Kickstarter fund raising campaign.
