Surface Book

Microsoft has announced an all-new product on stage during its Windows 10 Devices event in NY, the Surface Book. This is the first ever 2-in-1 laptop built by Microsoft. Featuring a 13.5-inch display with 267ppi at a 3:2 aspect ratio, the Surface Book has backlit keys that offer best-in-class key strokes, PixelSense for touch, and so much more. The Surface Book has the latest generation of Intel's NVIDIA GeForce GPU, and Microsoft worked with its Xbox team to tune graphics performance.

Additionally, it has GDDR5 RAM, a 6th-gen Intel Core Skylake Processor, and is said to offer 12-hours of battery life per charge. Microsoft describes the Surface Book as "ounce for ounce, pound for pound, the fastest 13-inch laptop ever made." It's made from a machined body down to the microns, offering a seamless and gapless design. The 2-in-1 weighs in at only 1.6lbs at 7.7mm thick. The Surface Book has full sized USB ports, an SD reader, and the GPU is in the base.

When comparing the Surface Book to the 12-inch MacBook Pro, Microsoft claims its twice as fast, with the discrete GPU making a big difference. The all-new Surface Dock will also work with the Surface Book, bringing all of its features to the new laptop. Microsoft utilizes Muscle Lock wire to attach the display to the keyboard, and the Dynamic Fulcrum Hinge unrolls and extends as you open the display.

You'll be able to pre-order the Surface Book starting today, and it will be officially available on October 26. Pricing starts at $1499.
