Microsoft Edge for iOS adds 3D Touch support and more in latest update

Since its launch in November, Microsoft has been gradually cooking up new features and tweaks for Microsoft Edge on iOS. With the app's latest update, Microsoft is embracing one of the iPhone's signature features, 3D touch, while also adding several new features that bring it up to speed with the latest update to its Android counterpart.

The addition of 3D Touch support is probably the biggest highlight here. Now you can use 3D Touch in Microsoft Edge to "peek" at a preview of content by lightly pressing on links. You can then "pop" into that content to bring it full screen by applying further pressure. Additionally, you'll find the option to set a region for the content that pops up in the news feed on the "New Tab" page.

Here's a look at all of what's new in Microsoft Edge version 41.10 for iOS:

  • 3D touch pop and peek
  • Find in page (it's in the "..." menu)
  • Set Outlook app to open links in Edge (in Outlook settings)
  • Share links to Edge from other apps via the share sheet
  • Choose the content region for the news feed on the New Tab Page (go to Settings->New Tab Page to customize this)
  • Open new tab in the background when you long press on a link
  • Blazing fast app start time

The release notes also hint at something a member of the Microsoft Edge team confirmed in January: iPad support is in the works.

This update follows the addition of iPhone X support in the last major update to roll out. If you want to check out all of what's new, you can grab the latest release now from the App Store.
