Surface Pro 3

Microsoft has just announced the Surface 3, a new 10.8-inch tablet that runs Windows 8.1. Pre-orders begin today and the tablet will go on sale in the US May 5, and sold in 26 markets by May 7.

Microsoft will sell four models of the Surface 3:

  • 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage for $499
  • 4GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage for $599
  • 2GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and LTE support for $599
  • 4GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage with LTE support for $699.

Inside all of the Surface 3 tablets will be an Intel Quad-core Atom x7 processor running at 1.6GHz. The tablet is 8.7 mm thick and just 1.37 pounds. It also has an 8MP rear camera and a 3.5MP front facing camera. The battery life is supposed to last up to 10 hours.

Microsoft adds:

New with Surface 3 is a Micro USB charger, which means it uses the same connector as most mobile phones. The included 13W charger will be the fastest charging option, but if your battery is running low you'll be able to use your phone charger as well.

Other ports on the tablet will include a full-size USB 3.0 port, a Mini DisplayPort and a microSD card reader. All Surface 3 tablets will be sold with a one-year subscription to Office 365 Personal. All of Microsoft's retail stores will have Surface 3 models to check out starting tomorrow, April 1.
