Windows 8

Net Applications has posted its desktop operating system market share numbers for March 2015, showing a big gain for Windows 7 worldwide. Meanwhile, numbers for Windows 8 and 8.1 remain steady for the most part.

Net Applications, which gathers its data by monitoring PC access to thousands of websites, says that in March, Windows 7 remained the number one used PC operating system with a market share of 58.04%. This is much higher than February's numbers of 55.99%. Windows 8.1 had 10.55% of the OS market share in March, just slightly higher than its 10.49% share in February. Windows 8 claimed 3.52% in March, slightly lower than its 3.55% share in February.

Windows XP, which is no longer supported by Microsoft, remains in second place with a 16.94% share in March, well below its 19.15% share in February. Windows Vista had just 1.97% in March. The preview version of Windows 10 is now being used by 0.09% of all PCs worldwide, compared to 0.08% in February.
