Today, Nero has pushed out their official BackItUp app ( for Windows Phone 8, giving the hundredth method by which users can safely store their images to the cloud. We’re sure this a tough sell to Windows Phone users, who get to experience native SkyDrive support with 7 GB of space (and that bonus 20 GB just handed out).

Still, if you like Nero or already happen to be using their service, which is also available on Android, then today is your day.

Version 1.0 of the app is now live and available for Windows Phone 8 devices. The service, which starts as free with 5 GB of storage, allows users to backup photos (and evidently only photos) to their account. In addition to Android support, Nero also has some PC software for your desktop as well. Accounts come in free (5 GB), €19,99/yr (5 GB Pro, automatic), €34,99/yr (25 GB) and €49,99/1st year (unlimited).

Here’s the selling points of their service:

  • Free 5 GB Nero BackItUp online storage
  • Easy backup in just a few taps
  • Backup all your photos to Nero BackItUp online storage
  • Automatically backup your photos whenever your Windows Phone is plugged-in and on Wi-Fi
  • Safeguard unlimited tablets and smartphones
  • Language supported: English

We’re not sure if Lumia 1020 or Lumia 1520 users can back up their full resolution photos, possibly the only “bonus” to using this service, but we’ll try it out later (or if you have, let us know in comments).

Nero BackItUp joins the continued onslaught of official apps for Windows Phone 8 in the last few months, and is a welcome addition.
