WTF is going on with the Razer Turret for Xbox One?

As part of its blitz of CES announcements, Razer alerted media (us included) that its Turret for Xbox One was set to go on sale during the trade show earlier in January. But more than two weeks later, it's still not available to purchase. So what gives?

The $250 peripheral was expected to go on sale on January 8 at the Microsoft Store, the Razer web store, and physical retailers in the U.S., Canada, and the UK, according to the CES press release Razer sent. However, the Microsoft Store still only surfaces a preorder link with an estimated March 31 release date. The Razer Store, meanwhile, still shows the option to be notified when it's available. And those preorders were available before CES.

When reached for comment, a Razer spokesperson stated:

Availability for consumer pre-order and in-store demo (via Microsoft Stores) was 1/8/2019. Delivery is anticipated this quarter. This was relayed to media, and it was reported widely.

It's worth noting that the press kit received by Windows Central clearly stated: "The long-awaited Razer Turret for Xbox One is now available for sale." So we published a news post along those lines. Given that it was up for preorder before prior to CES, the discrepency is perplexing. Regardless, it looks like you'll be waiting a little longer to bring home a Turret for Xbox One.

The Razer Turret for Xbox One is the first product designed specifically to work with the console's relatively new support for keyboards and mice, so there's been quite a bit of hype surrounding its release. Like the standard Turret, the keyboard is designed to sit comfortably on your lap for couch gaming. A panel on the side slides out to support mouse movements.

Razer has also gone a bit further for Xbox One by adding a dedicated Xbox button for pulling up console menus and issuing commands. Chroma lighting, of course, is on board as well.

For now, you can still get an in-store demo at Microsoft Stores and preorder the Razer Turret for Xbox One for $250 at the Microsoft Store and Razer's web store. It just won't be available for a while.
