Star Wars Battlefront II trailer leak features Darth Maul, Kylo Ren, and an unknown soldier

The original Battlefront launched in 2004 and remains a fond memory for many Star Wars game fans. EA rebooted the franchise with Battlefield aficionados DICE in 2015, to mixed praise and runaway sales success.

For what Battlefront (2015) lacked in complexity and depth, it made up for with stunning, authentic environments, and accessible, casual gameplay. Still, many long-time fans (myself included) felt it could have been a lot better.

My main criticisms in our review focused on the game's depth and famous lack of story content. One would think the Star Wars universe would be ripe for some narrative, but EA felt otherwise. Thankfully, it looks like they've heard the feedback loud and clear.

Star Wars Battlefront II will feature multiplayer battles that take place across every era of the franchise, including the prequel trilogy with Darth Maul and Yoda, all the way up to Episode VII with Kylo Ren. Also, it looks as though this version of Battlefront will follow the tale of an "untold soldier," presumably as its campaign content. The cry "avenge our Emperor" can be heard towards the end of the trailer, suggesting content that bridges the gap between Star Wars VI and Star Wars VII.

Sony's PlayStation has a marketing deal with EA for Battlefront II, and the trailer says that the footage is indicative of gameplay on that platform. We, however, have received highly credible information that Battlefront II will be native 4K for the next Xbox, Project Scorpio, and will be used to demonstrate the console's 6TF power in some way, in the near future.

Stay tuned for more information on Star Wars Battlefront II as we get it.

Star Wars Battlefront II launches in Q3 2017 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
