Windows Phone Central's Roundup of the 2012 Olympic Game apps

[With the Olympics kicking off tonight, we figured we would bump our roundup of apps for Windows Phone that will keep you up to date on the massive sporting event. -- Daniel]

The official Olympic app hit the Marketplace a few days ago, London 2012, and these are a few of the alternatives that stood out to us. Some stand out stronger than others and some have features that have them stand out a little.  Also remember that this is just a sampling of what is available. The number of Olympic apps at last count was pushing thirty.  If you've got a favorite Olympic app that didn't make the cut, feel free to share in the comments.

Windows Phone Olympic app, Ripple, now available

Just in the nick of time for the Summer Olympics, Ripple has been released over at the Windows Phone Marketplace. Ripple is a map based companion app for the 2012 Olympic Games in London (that start Friday).

The app offers two views, a map view and an augmented reality view. Information tabs line the sides of the screens and an image/attraction filter can be pulled up from the bottom of the screen.

The 2012 Summer Olympics are just over two weeks away. The London games are set to begin on July 17, 2012 and the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) is eagerly working on an official Windows Phone app for the games. LOCOG's Chief Information Officer Gerry Pennell stated the release is imminent and should be available in days.

While features of the Windows Phone app weren't mentioned, the Windows Phone version should be similar to the iOS and Android Olympics app that sends game results and schedules to the app.  A version of the app is also in the works for Blackberry devices.

There are currently a handful of 2012 Olympic apps already on the Marketplace and it will be nice to see an official offering join the ranks. Speaking of what's already available, look for a roundup of these Olympic apps this Friday.

We'll keep you posted when the official apps hits the Marketplace.
