camera app

Boomerang is an official app from Instagram that takes a burst of photos and stitches them together into a high-quality mini video that plays forward and backward. While Windows 10 Mobile users wait for the official app, they can try out a third-party app called InstaBooom that mimics the features found on Boomerang.

Microsoft has just announced a new camera app for Windows Phone users. This is the default camera app that all OEMs and users will have access to on Windows Phone 8.1 devices. Let’s check it out.

It feels like it was just yesterday that we reported on an update for the Windows Phone photography app Fhotolens.  Well, the developer is at it again.  Another update just hit the Windows Phone Store for Fhotolens and another one is in the works.

For those not familiar, Fhotolens is a Windows Phone camera app with a virtual 10-24mm lens and HDR capture capabilities.  The latest update takes Fhotolens to version 1.3 and most notably adds SkyDrive support and sharing options to the growing list of features.

We use Fhotoroom on Windows Phone mostly for editing photos before uploading to Instagram, but the app offers much more than that. It also has a very fast growing community and an advanced built-in camera.

Hands on with Nokia Refocus - shoot now, focus later

Nokia Refocus arrived at the Windows Phone Store earlier today for Nokia Lumia devices with PureView Camera. It supports the Nokia Lumia 920, Lumia 925, Lumia 928 and Lumia 1020 (with Amber installed). It lets you capture first and then focus and re-focus later. We just installed it on our Nokia Lumia 1020 and took it on a test drive.

Watch the walkthrough video after the break.

Windows 8.1 reached RTM status earlier in August and a few weeks later developers had the chance to download and start testing their applications with it. But Windows 8.1 isn’t done. Microsoft initially wanted to not even let developers download the bits until October 18th (public release).

So what else are they working on before the public get to play with Windows 8.1?

While some Lumia owners with the GDR2 OS and Amber update can now use the Nokia Pro Cam app to leverage advanced camera features on their device, the original ProShot continues to evolve and it still offers a noteworthy alternative.

Today, version 2.8.3 is available on the Store and it now controls some GDR2 features that weren’t previously available in earlier builds. It’s also touted as being faster than Nokia Pro Cam, though at least for Lumia 1020 owners, you won’t get those 38MP photos. So what’s new?

Funny Faces augmented reality app for Mango

Schulte Software Development has released Funny Faces, one of the first Mango apps to use augmented reality.  Using your phone's camera, Funny Faces will detect people's faces and overlay your choice of ridiculous head wear.  Choose from Afros, mustaches, different hats, or the famed internet hero himself, Chuck Norris.

Once you have sufficiently sillied-up your target, Funny Faces allows you take a picture with the camera and save it to your photo album.  Better yet, you can share your snapshot with friends  directly via email, Twitter and FaceBook.  There are already quite a bit of overlay options, with more on the way. The devs are also asking for suggestions, so if you have any ideas, feel free to share them right through the app itself.

You can get Funny Faces from the Marketplace for $.99, or try it free first.  The trial version has a few overlays to try and a one-time ability to save/share your creation.
