Microsoft Insider Previews

Between Windows 10, Windows 10 Mobile and Xbox, as well as the fast and slow and every other ring, there's a lot to keep up with when it comes to Microsoft's Insider Preview programs. So right here you'll be able to keep tabs on the very latest previ

Windows Phone Insider updated for Windows Phone 8, not much more than a fresh coat of paint

If you’ve been around the Windows Phone scene you’ve probably stumbled on the Insider app sometime in the past. It’s a sweet offering from the Windows Phone team that offers ringtones, wallpapers, and more. The app was previously at version 3.0.1.0, but we’re now seeing version 1.0.1.0. Is this a new Insider app? Signs point to yes, let’s check it out.

Microsoft updates Insider app for Windows Phone 8, preps you for the holidays

Microsoft this morning has managed to give us an early holiday gift in the form of an updated Insider app. For those of you who are new, Insider is a companion app from Microsoft that gives some bonus features to help enhance your phone. It gets updated fairly regularly and actually keeps getting better with each release.

Get the Smoked by Windows Phone for your Lock screen with Insider app

Microsoft has pushed out yet another update for their Insider app--the app that gives you free Bing wallpapers, ringtones, tips and more from the Windows Phone Team.

What's unique about this update though (and smart) is the inclusion of the Smoked by Windows Phone logo/wallpaper which you can then use for your Lock screen. Pretty cool idea, although if we could offer some criticism: the text on the wallpaper overlaps with the Lock screen info, making it perhaps not the smartest decision for reading visibility.

A smaller, notable change is also the new Bing logo in the wallpaper info-bar area. Don't worry, it doesn't save like that.

The Insider app is updated about once a month to include new ringtones and wallpaper and seeing as its free, we see no reason to not have this on your phone (we really like 'Aphex' for our ringtone). Pick it up here in the Marketplace. Thanks, @WobblyChair, for the tip!

Windows Phone Insider app gets Mango refresh, new features, ringtones

Windows Phone Insider is a decent little helper app that Microsoft created, but for some reason doesn't ship with, Windows Phone. It has tips, Bing wallpapers, top apps, etc.

Recently, it too got a Mango refresh and it actually has some really cool features now to take note of:

  • Exclusive Ringtones! 5 free every month from musician and composer ill. Gates.
  • Live Tile: Pin the Insider app to your phone's Start screen.  See the Tile come alive. Enjoy the daily Bing wallpaper and see at a glance when there are new apps, games and ringtones to explore!
  • Tips: To help you get started with your phone, and easily discover the 500+ new features in Windows Phone 7.5.
  • Game top picks: Discover 5 new games each week

No, that's not a typo either, there really is a phat composer (his words) named ill.Gates--check his website here. We think that's pretty great that they're working with someone to create some original ringtone content each month and that alone makes this app worth it. The other stuff is just bonus material.

Grab Windows Phone Insider here from the Marketplace. Mango devices only! (Why it doesn't show on simple searches, we have no idea). Thanks, sam.amad, for the tip via our app!

Microsoft releases Windows Phone 'Insider' app for n00bs

Microsoft this morning published a new app called Windows Phone Insider to the Marketplace. The tiny app is a great starting point for those new to the Windows Phone world though numerous features and tutorials. Here's what it can do:

  • Top picks - most popular apps in a genre (this week appears to be fitness)
  • Wallpapers - pulls down Bing images for use as wallpaper (nice)
  • Follow Us - Latest Facebook and Twitter posts from Windows Phone
  • Tour - short web tutorials on how to use your phone/make the most of it

The app is actually really slick and the Bing wallpapers feature is huge for many--it'swell worth the free download just for that option. Of course, we couldn't help but think this would be great on the phone to begin with, which makes us think that with the upcoming software update, you'll see this stock on your device after that first flash. Anyone wanna bet?

You can grab the app here in the Marketplace; Thanks, David M., for letting us know!
