Readiy is a simple Feedly client for Windows 8. The app doesn't have very many bells and whistles and covers the basics rather nicely.

Readiy has a clean appearance, swift synchronization with all your subscriptions and if you aren't happy with your current RSS reader, Readiy might be just what the doctor ordered.

BaconSync is a really neat feature coming to the Windows Phone app Baconit . The feature is still in beta form and should be released to the masses shortly.  For those not familiar with Baconit, it is a Reddit.com app for your phone which we have been impressed with and BaconSync looks to make it even more impressive.

BaconSync is a in-browser extension for Baconit that synchronizes read links across multiple phones and browser. It is currently only compatible with Chrome browsers. The extension not only lets you review what you've read from your Windows Phone on your PC but you can send web pages from your PC to your Windows Phone. In these situations you'll receive a toast notification on your Windows Phone that will send you straight to the web page.

BaconSync is an handy extension that will extend the capabilities of Baconit rather nicely. The BaconSync extension should be ready shortly and in the meantime, if you haven't tried Baconit, you can find the free version here at the Windows Phone Marketplace.  There is also a donation version that you can find here for $1.99 to help support the developers efforts.

Software Review (Windows Phone 7): AP Mobile

We first looked at AP Mobile when it launched for Windows Mobile. The news reader presented today's news and weather in a well laid out fashion. AP Mobile has made the transition to Windows Phone 7 and is a free app over at the Marketplace.

One of the nice design features of Windows Phone 7 is the metro or hub design. It allows applications to lay out information in an easily accessible manner that is easy to navigate around. AP Mobile takes full advantage of this design.

The main hub of AP Mobile consists of:

  • The Front Page: Here is where your top stories are listed.
  • Media Pages: This is a gallery of images from the day's stories.
  • Category Page: Here is the break down of the broad headline categories. They include such items as your local news, weather showbiz, and technology. Your search command and settings menu also rests on this page.

To see what type impression AP Mobile for Windows Phone 7 left with us, ease on past the break.

Marketplace Spotlight: BBC News

BBC News is an application being offered over at the Marketplace that is the product of one developer's frustration. Lawrence Gripper, the apps developer, states "I got really annoyed with all these iPhone and android users having their nice little news applications so I wrote one."

BBC News, as the name implies, allows you to browse the headlines from BBC News. The $2.99 app saves the articles and images locally to help speed things up. The interface is straight forward and simple in that all you have to do is tap a headline and the full story loads.

From the menu, you can filter stories by region (worldwide stories, UK, N. Ireland, Scotland, etc.) or topic (sports, politics, business, and health). Pages loaded promptly and I experienced no glitches, crashes or bugs in using the news app. BBC News reminded me of AP Mobile but focused on stories generated through BBC.

You have to admire the ingenuity of Lawrence Gripper for seeing a need and taking initiative to develop an app to meet those needs. If you find yourself needing to stay in tune with BBC headlines, BBC News is well worth considering. You can pick up a copy at the Marketplace and for a video demo of BBC News, just follow the break.
