Pre-order: Surface Laptop | NEW Surface Pro

SIM free

We announced a short while back that the Nokia Lumia 1520 was available in the UK to pre-order. The day it goes on sale is now here and folk wishing to pick up the monster 6 inch Windows Phone can do so SIM free at unlocked-mobiles.com for £549.98 (inc VAT) for the 32GB version (about $900 U.S.). As an added bonus you'll also get a £20 app voucher that can be used during the lifetime of the phone.

Up in Canada there has been some confusion around the status of the Nokia Lumia 920 on Rogers. It appears that early shipments of the phone were SIM unlocked and what’s more, they had the AWS 1700 band on board allowing it to work on WIND and T-Mobile US. That prospect at least offered some hope to those on those carriers without the 920 (aka most of them).

We’ve since verified that the later shipments of the 920 on Rogers are not SIM unlocked though you could pay the Canadian carrier $50 to do so (assuming you bought it under contract). As terrible as that is it’s still better than AT&T, which to our knowledge has not given out any unlock codes for 920 users.

For those of you looking to buy an HTC 8X SIM free in the UK, you’ll be pleased to know that the device is coming back into stock with new California Blue devices expected today and Black expected to return in the next 48 hours.

Unfortunately there is no word on a release date for the Red and Limelight yellow versions, which are like rare Pokemon, evidently. As soon as we hear they’re in stock we’ll let you know.

We received an interesting email today from unlocked-mobiles.com who have informed me that there will in fact be two variants of the Nokia Lumia 820 on sale in the UK. Most retailers will be selling the 3G version but the stock coming into unlocked-mobiles.com are 4G enabled.

So what does this mean for us consumers? Currently if you are looking to jump on the UK 4G LTE bandwagon you only have one carrier option at the moment and that is with EE. All the other UK carriers will have 4G in the near future but many of us smartphone geeks want the fastest connection as soon as possible. We have tested out the EE 4G speeds as you have seen and getting the new service in the UK is like a breath of fresh air, but it also comes at a cost.

The Lumia 900 is available unlocked in white on eBay for £499, with an availability date of April 9th. The seller is sunnydayshopping, who has a positive rating history, and the location is Manchester, UK. Bands supported are: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100. An unlocked international version of the handset was previously available on eBay from the U.S. not so long ago for the same price.

The Lumia 900 is also destined for AT&T on April 9th, when we'll expect consumers will be able to get their hands on the device, which sports a 1.4Ghz chip, 1830mAh battery, 4.3" AMOLED ClearBlack display and 8MP shooter (with FF camera).

Three have been sold already, so be sure to check out the listing should you be interested in the high-end Windows Phone. Of course, WPCentral cannot take any responsibility for your purchases on eBay, and we always recommend caution.

Yesterday, we mentioned that Clove UK was going to begin offering the Nokia Lumia 800, unlocked and SIM free in December. Now we got word that Expansys USA and Phones4U are both offering the same deal--one cheaper, one more expensive.

First, Expansys USA is offering the black Lumia 800 for a whopping $789. So, you should probably start saving now if you want it by Christmas and we doubt anyone will be picking it up as a gift. The phone will work on AT&T's 3G network but lacks the HSPA+ bands, so keep that in mind--you may want to wait a few months for an "official" offering from the Death Star, especially since you'll not only get HSPA+ but rumored LTE as well.

Next up is Phones4U. They too have the black, unlocked Lumia 800 that you can buy now, so forget that pre-order. The price there is £399.95, which isn't half bad--heck, at $618 it is cheaper for Americans to order it overseas than locally (too bad Phones4U doens't ship overseas). Plus, they also have the Cyan version available, which is a bit of a rarity and we think gives Phones4U the edge here.

A while back Clove, a UK mobile phone retailer, announced on their blog that their stock of unlocked Nokia Lumia 800s would be delayed until January 2012. Today, they've stated that the date has been pushed forward to December 1st. Ordering via Clove will set the buyer back by £369 (excluding VAT), not a bad price at all.

So how many of you will be picking one up? Remember, it requires a microSIM card, so hot-swapping phones on your carrier of choice could be an issue. And while you wait, check out our review of the Lumia 800.

While  we got the first look at the Dell Venue Pro here in the States and were expecting it here before anywhere else, guess we were wrong. Looks like Clove in the UK are set to receive the portrait slider phone on November 8th--SIM free/unlocked, no less. No word on how much internal storage though (8GB or 16GB) as that area under specs is oddly left blank.

Unlocked/SIM free though is not cheap: at £375.00 (£440 including VAT tax), the phone will run around $590 ($692 including VAT). Still, you could presumably order it now and have it sent here if you wanted to be extra cool.

Hmmmm....(looks down at wallet)
