TuneWiki is a pretty cool website where you can check out not only the lyrics for your favorite song but also discuss song meanings--always a favorite pastime. The site has apps for that are very popular on Android and iOS and now we're pleased to see it has arrived on Windows Phone too. Best part? We're not looking at some generic port but what looks like an honest attempt to embrace the Windows Phone UI. Here are the features:

  • Listen to any music with synced lyrics
  • Share lyrics from your favorite songs with your network of friends
  • Get lyrics instantly translated into 40+ languages
  • What does that song mean? Comment on and discuss the meaning of lyrics and songs
  • Discover new music in your SongBox – songs that are being played and recommended by your friends
  • Explore Song Maps and real-time Top Charts to discover popular songs nearby and around the world

We just gave the free app a spin on our phone and boy do we like it--its clean, bold, pulls down the lyrics and plays them "Karaoke style" i.e. no scrolling and even has a neat mapping feature. We can see now why ~5 million people are using the service as it's presented very well.

Anyways, if it sounds like something you'd be into, don't worry as the app is free and available now. Head here to the Marketplace to give it a go. Thanks, Andy, for the tip!

Fast Code, the developers of SuperTube, has released Free Music Downloader over at the Windows Phone Marketplace. Free Music Downloader is a free, ad-supported version of SuperMusic that was released just a few days ago. I know... it's a little confusing.

Why the developer didn't go with "SuperMusic Free" or "SuperMusic Lite" for the free version is a bit of a mystery but variety is the spice of life.  Both apps are basically the same.  Free Music Downloader has the ad banners and SuperMusic allows you to sync your downloaded music files with your computer. Beyond that, the layout is identical.

Free Music Downloader and SuperMusic allows you to download free music, audiobooks and podcasts from various websites and organize them into playlists. You can customize the app with background images from your Pictures Hub and add your favorite download sites to the existing list of about forteen download sites.

To download a tune, simply tap on the website listing on the Favorites Page and a web browser will open up to that website. From there all you need to do is find the song, tap the download link on the webpage and the download begins.

The artists don't appear to be mainstream bands but the music selection is wide ranging and some of the tunes aren't too shabby. All in all, if your looking for a music download app either version is worth looking into.

Free Music Downloader is a free, ad supported app that you can download here (opens Zune) at the Marketplace. SuperMusic has a free trial version with the full version running $1.29 which you can find here at the Marketplace.

Ultimate Guitar Tabs, hitting the Marketplace chords

Ulitmate Guitar USA is offering Ultimate Guitar Tabs over at the Windows Phone Marketplace. The app is an easy, well laid out means for viewing guitar, bass and drum tabulatures and chords.

Tapping into the database, Ultimate Guitar Tabs has access to over 300,000 tabs. You can search tunes two ways. Simple Search finds your tabs by artist or song title. Advanced Search allows you to search by tab type, a portion of the song, difficulty level, tuning, and rating. Other key features of the Ultimate Guitar Tabs includes:

  • UG Authorization: Sign in with your Ultimate Guitar account, or create a new one directly from the app.
  • Favorites: Add Tabs to your Favorites to make them available for offline browsing. Synchronize Tabs between the app and your online account!
  • Chords: View chord diagrams while reading Chords, transpose chords easily.
  • Tab Packs: Collections of pre-selected Tabs. Tab Packs are based on skills level (Easy, Medium, Advanced), music genres (Rock, Metal, Punk), and special occasions (Love songs, Xmas songs).
  • Top 100 Tabs list for each Tab type (Guitar, Bass, Chords, Drums or overall).
  • Auto-scroll feature: View Tablature in the text viewer using the handy Auto-Scroll functionality, the App will scroll Tabs for you!
  • Random Tab: Load Tab for a random song.

Ultimate Guitar also supports both landscape and portrait modes. If you're learning the guitar or wanting a hefty database of tunes to play, Ultimate Guitar is worth a look. The only downside is that there's no trial version available but the full version is only running $2.99. You can find Ultimate Guitar Tabs here (opens Zune) at the Marketplace.

Thanks goes out to Sean for the tip!
