update

The official Qantas app has been bumped to version 1.2, fixing some bugs and adding improvements for customers of the Australian airline to take full advantage of. There's nothing worse than experiencing issues when attempting to use an app. Best of all, we previously looked at how gorgeous this official offering is. We've also been informed that lock screen support is now featured, showing the boarding pass.

Update 1PM ET: Seems like Nokia is on the ball as Verizon has thrown the switch for the Lumia 822. Go check for your update now: Settings > Phone Update > Check for update. We can also confirm FM Radio and Group text is included.

If you’re on Verizon and waiting for the Amber firmware and GDR2 OS updates for your Nokia Lumia 822, fear not as it should be headed to your device real soon.

Yesterday, Nokia updated their site from "waiting for approval" to "coming soon" and a tipster named WP8addict in our forums noted that indeed, it has been cleared by Verizon yesterday.

Nokia is slowly rolling out its Amber firmware bundled with Microsoft's GDR2 update, but it's no fun having to keep checking your phone every few hours, seeing whether or not you've got a notification to update. Nokia has decided to whip up a solution and has released a page for consumers residing in Europe to receive a hint as to when their Lumia Windows Phones will be bumped to the latest version.

Feed Me is a popular Windows Phone news reader that's used and loved by many (including some of us here), but we've been informed by the developer that YouTube video playback has ceased to function correctly. This is due to utilising unsupported and unofficial endpoints to achieve the playback and connectivity being hampered by changes made by Google. The good news is an update is in the works.

Rejoice people, we have word that not only is the Lumia 920 (global, not AT&T) getting the double punch of Amber and GDR2 (OS build 10327/8) today, but it is being joined by the Verizon Lumia 928. This follows just 24 hours after the update was spotted on Nokia's servers.

The update brings the new camera functions, FM radio support, Glance settings and the Other storage fix to the Verizon flagship Lumia.

Deezer (www.deezer.com) is a music streaming and discovery service available in multiple markets. The company already has clients for both Windows 8 and Windows Phone, but the team has released a new version for the mobile platform. We've already covered what's been included in GDR2 from Microsoft as well as the Amber firmware update from Nokia, but there appears to be more pieces to the jigsaw puzzle. An update for Extras + Info has been fired out into the wild that enables Lumia Windows Phone owners who are rocking GDR2 to start blocking numbers and unwanted contact. Yep, this is huge, folks.

On Friday, we brought you a report of upcoming changes to how Bing works and looks on Windows Phone 8. At the time, we presented a handful of documented alterations and confirmed with Microsoft that these new features were coming to those in the US soon and the rest of the world a bit later.

Today, Microsoft has decided to detail those changes on the Windows Phone Blog, filling in some of the blanks for the search engine overhaul.

The Nokia Amber update for Lumia hardware is already loaded on new Lumia 925 and Lumia 1020 units. The update is expected to hit other Lumia Windows Phones soon, but before then we've been teased at a pre-release build running on a Lumia 920. If you're out the loop and are still eagerly awaiting to have the update installed on your Nokia Windows Phone, be sure to head on past the break to check out what's new.

Microsoft has once again updated the official Facebook app for Windows Phone, bringing the public version up to speed with the beta. If you've not been following our rather frenzied Facebook Beta coverage, this latest release (5.0.3.0) includes numerous improvements and fixes. These include the ability to unfriend someone, as well as "unlike" a page and numerous stability improvements - essentially everything from each update since version 5.

You may have noticed a new update for your official Windows Phone Central app appeared earlier this week, followed by another one this morning. In the interest of keeping our readership informed we thought it best to let you know what these minor patches are for, but if you'd rather just get on with being up to date you can grab the update here in the marketplace.

The brief changelist and a little information on what's changed can be found after the break for those of you who enjoy technical details!

One of our readers tipped us that Nokia and Microsoft are pushing out updates for your offline maps on Windows Phone 8. Indeed, when we fired up our Lumia 920 and checked we were notified of 209.8MB in updates (CT, NY and MA), meaning they’re refreshing whole states in the US (our tipster had over 805MB). (Edit, turns out these aren't new-new, but for some of you, you may never had updated, so here's how to do it).

To see if your maps need updating, simply launch your respective mapping app and check for those updates (details below). It will only take a few minutes, but you’ll need to be on Wi-Fi to grab ‘em.

A few months ago Microsoft’s Bing search engine introduced a new feature known as Snapshot, which added the ability to instantly see snippets of information about a search query before submitting it. At first Snapshot only supported people searches (which Microsoft accounted for 10% of all searches). Today, the company is expanding Snapshot with new auto-suggest categories.
