Welcome to Windows Central!

We have a new name! We began as WMExperts back in 2007 covering Windows Mobile, changed our name in late 2010 to WPCentral to reflect Microsoft's next chapter with Windows Phone. Today, we are once again moving forward with Windows Central.

The Number One Community For EVERYTHING Microsoft

It should be clear now that coming into 2015 there is just one Windows, running on the Surface, Xbox One, PCs, laptops and even your phone. At the urging of many of our loyal and active readers, over the last year we have steadily ramped up coverage — beyond our historical Windows Phone focus — to also cover Xbox, Surface, and general Microsoft news. The response to the expanded coverage has been excellent and this past year has also seen the site and our community grow by leaps and bounds. Amazingly, WPCentral is now not only the top Windows Phone site in the world, but we are also one of the top Microsoft sites too. The fact of the matter is if you own a Windows Phone, you are likely to possess (or be interested in) the growing ecosystem of Microsoft products.

We want to continue the momentum that's already underway and changing from WPCentral.com to WindowsCentral.com reflects our expanded mission (not to mention Microsoft recently dropped the Phone from the branding on new Windows phones). Our goal and mission is simple - we'll be working our hardest every single day to make this community and resource the best destination around for all users of Microsoft-based products.

Here's what is changing

We gave this name change a LOT of thought over the past year. We even included the community in the discussion, getting your feedback on names we were contemplating, including 'Windows One', 'Windows United', and 'WinCentral.' At the beginning of our name change quest, Windows Central was the clearest choice —but at the time we were unable to acquire it. The feedback wasn't overly positive on the new alternative brands, so we tripled up our efforts on Windows Central. The stars aligned, and we're extremely happy and excited to now be Windows Central.

Along with our new name comes the usual assortment of website domain changes, new Twitter handle, and even Instagram. The good news is there is nothing for you to do if you follow us already as everything has been changed over like magic. However, for reference, here are the appropriate sites and links:

Regarding our Windows Phone and Windows apps, an update should be out later this week to reflect the current name change. Sit tight! As we mentioned earlier this year, many other great changes are in the works that you are going to love.

So welcome to Windows Central and again thank you, our loyal readers, who make this site the best in the world. Spread the word!

Daniel Rubino is the Editor-in-chief of Windows Central. He is also the head reviewer, podcast co-host, and analyst. He has been covering Microsoft since 2007, when this site was called WMExperts (and later Windows Phone Central). His interests include Windows, laptops, next-gen computing, and watches. He has been reviewing laptops since 2015 and is particularly fond of 2-in-1 convertibles, ARM processors, new form factors, and thin-and-light PCs. Before all this tech stuff, he worked on a Ph.D. in linguistics, watched people sleep (for medical purposes!), and ran the projectors at movie theaters because it was fun.
