Does the Lumia 925's Windows key act as a notification light? Possibly [Updated]

Look, we're as excited as you guys when headlines pop up across the Internet stating that the Lumia 925 has a notification light and the Windows logo flashes in the attempt to grab the owner's attention, but we're not convinced. And neither is Nokia (seriously, we've asked numerous times). That said, we've previously seen in person this blinking Windows capacitive key back when the Lumia 925 was announced (alongside the Lumia 928), but we were informed that it's simply related to debugging (basically the current power-state, blinking was a low-cycle).

Samsung releases ATIV Beam app so you can send files to Android hardware

Can we get a drum roll? Samsung has released a new app for Windows Phone. ATIV Beam. Sounds cool, right? It certainly is. We're looking at an NFC app to make it easy to transfer files from the ATIV Windows Phone to... wait, Android? You'd immediately assume that this is just a small error on Samsung's part and the app will work with Windows Phones that sport NFC too, right? Wrong, this is an exclusive app for those who wish to transfer files to Android devices.

HTC working on a new Windows Phone, rumoured to be a One variant

HTC is believed to be working on a new Windows Phone, according to reports. It's said the upcoming device will not be a complete re-hash of the HTC One, a popular Android handset, but it will take some cues from the metal flagship smartphone.

We're supposedly looking at a screen size between 4 and 5 inches and will be constructed with a body made from metal. Beats Audio and Windows Phone GDR3 are said to also be included. If this is the case then this rumour could be a while off, if true.

A quick look at what's new in the Lumia 925 and the upcoming "Amber" firmware update [Updated]

The Nokia Lumia 925 has only just been released in China (as well as other markets) and while we've been able to get some hands-on action,  technology website WPDang has taken the new Windows Phone for a test run, probing for new functions of features in the Nokia "Amber" firmware that comes pre-loaded with it. Amber is Nokia's codename for the next minor Windows Phone 8 system refreshment which is known as "GDR2".

Aside from the standard update from Microsoft, Nokia has also packed in some of its own additions intended for Lumia phones only.

Photoplay updated, Live Tiles and toast notification support now available

We've covered Photoplay in the past and more recently took a quick look at an upcoming update that was to introduce push notifications and Live Tile support. This new release is now available and has been pushed out to the store. If you're not familiar with the brand, Photoplay is an Instagram-like service that enables consumers to utilise smartphones for photography and share shots on social networks, as well as their own.

Huawei teases a mysterious Windows Phone, possible Ascend W2?

Huawei over in Italy has teased the above image on its Facebook page. The handset that appears to be within the whirlpool looks to be the Ascend W2, which we've covered recently in numerous renders. Unfortunately the company fails to reveal much else, but we're open to new hardware hitting stores for consumers to enjoy.

Nokia Lumia 925 Windows Phone unleashed on the United Kingdom

The Nokia Lumia 925 has been unleashed on the United Kingdom and is expected to be on a few retailer's shelves this week.

The Lumia 925 is being described as a new interpretation of the Lumia 920. The Lumia 925 sports a 4.5" AMOLED WXGA (1280x768) screen protected by Gorilla Glass 2 and with Clearblack, Super Sensative Touch technology.

The rear camera is a 8.7MP Pureview shooter with optical stabilization and short pulse, high power, dual LED lights. As far as memory goes, the Lumia 925 has 1GB of RAM with internal storage differing a little between carriers.

New data shows an even more popular Lumia 520; Windows Phone 8 overtakes predecessor

Advertising network AdDuplex has released data for the month of June and while little has changed, there are positive signs throughout the report. Namely, the Lumia 520 continues to grow in numbers as more consumers opt for the cheap (but cheerful) Windows Phone and version 8 of the OS has finally taken over its predecessor. Sitting comfortably? Jolly good. Let's have a gander at the numbers.
