What you need to know

  • Xbox Cloud Gaming for Windows 10 PCs and Apple phones and tablets is entering limited beta.
  • For now, only certain Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will receive invites to test it.
  • Over 100 games will be playable through Edge, Safari, and Chrome.

If you've ever wanted to play AAA titles through Microsoft Edge, you're in luck. Starting tomorrow, invites will be sent out to select Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members allowing them to test the limited beta of Xbox Cloud Gaming for Windows 10 PCs and Apple devices. Apple phones and tablets, as well as browsers including Edge, Safari, and Google Chrome, are about to become hubs for console-tier gaming.

In the event you're not already a Game Pass Ultimate subscriber or aren't one of the chosen few invited to the beta test tomorrow, don't worry. Microsoft's announcement of Xbox Cloud Gaming for Windows 10 PCs and Apple devices includes mention that more invites will be routinely administered to gamers in all 22 supported countries, and that the "plan is to iterate quickly and open up to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members in the coming months so more people have the opportunity to play Xbox in all-new ways."

As stated in Microsoft's announcement post, recipients of the beta invitation will need either a compatible wired USB or Bluetooth controller to play games or can use "custom touch controls" that will be available for over 50 games at the limited beta's start. 100-plus games will be available for browsers from the limited beta's outset.

It's likely a lot of the best Xbox games of 2021 are going to be part of that lineup, so it's a good time to get excited. As cool as the Xbox Series X is, there's something special about playing the best Xbox Game Pass games via Microsoft Edge.
