The year's next big gaming event, Gamescom, is just around the corner in Cologne, Germany, and Microsoft has now confirmed that Xbox will have a sizeable presence at the show. And while it probably won't match E3 in terms of scale, Microsoft's plans include a live show, another FanFest experience, and more.

Xbox will host a live show and more at Gamescom 2017 in August

First up is the live show, which will kick off on Sunday, August 20 at 9 p.m. CEST. Microsoft says the show will feature some new announcements on Xbox One X, game news, and developer interviews. There are even some surprises in store, the company says. As you'd expect, the live show will be streamed on Mixer, though we'll likely see it streamed elsewhere as well.

A special Xbox FanFest event will also be held for hardcore fans on Tuesday, August 22. Details are light for right now, but Microsoft says it will share more as the show approaches. Outside of FanFest, the Xbox booth will be open in Hall 8 of the Koelnmesse, North entrance for those in attendance from August 22-26. Here's a look, from Microsoft:

  • Tuesday, August 22 – 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. CEST (press/trade only day)
  • Wednesday, August 23 – 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. CEST
  • Thursday, August 24 – 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. CEST
  • Friday, August 25 – 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. CEST

Lastly, Age of Empires will have a special presence at the show, where Microsoft will celebrate its 20th anniversary wil a livestreamed show on Monday, August 21 starting at 9 p.m. CEST.
