Acer has been making laptops for a long time, and it is a brand that virtually anyone looking for a new PC will have heard of. And, like many other manufacturers, Acer covers a wide range of prices and needs with its notebook PCs.
So, to try and help you make your decision on what to buy, we rounded up the very best of the bunch.
Acer Swift 7
Insanely thin and yet still promising great battery life, the Acer Swift 7 almost defies belief. Despite the super-slim and light form factor, it's still packing up to a 7th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB solid-state drive (SSD). You're also not left to fend for yourself with just a solitary USB-C port, you get two.
Acer isn't the only company making crazy thin laptops, and it won't be the last, but the Swift 7 is a handsome devil with a gorgeous 1080p 13.3-inch display. And it just oozes style, and not at a crazy price.
You can pick up a Swift 7 for around $999, so it's handsome and affordable compared to some other premium Ultrabooks on the market. There was a refreshed model announced at CES 2018 but this doesn't yet seem to be on sale.
Acer Aspire V Nitro Black Edition
If you want a laptop that can handle pretty much everything you throw at it, looks great and doesn't have to cost the earth, the V Nitro Black Edition is for you. It's not specifically a gaming notebook, and it's not targeted just at gamers, but it's got enough under the hood to play the latest titles.
The latest refreshed model is available with the 7th Gen Intel Core i7-7700HQ and a GTX 1050 or 6GB 1060 GPU. You can now get Tobii eye tracking hardware, with native support for this built into Windows 10.
There's also an option for 16GB of RAM and a 17-inch version that isn't so massive it's impossible to carry around in a reasonably sized bag. It's well priced, too, at around $1,280.
Acer Predator 15
Acer's newly spun-off brand for all things gaming is Predator, and this is one of the first notebooks to bear the mark. The Predator 15 is, as you might guess, a 15-inch laptop, and the styling is every bit as aggressive as you might hope for. The otherwise black body is broken up by lashings of red.
The Predator 15 gets the nod over its 17-inch sibling by virtue of being mildly more portable. Specs-wise you can have an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, Full HD display with G-Sync, NVIDIA GTX 1070 graphics, 16GB of DDR4 RAM and storage options including 1TB hard-disk drive (HDD) and 256GB SSD all for around $1,600.
Its party piece, however, is its innovative cooling system. If you don't want an optical drive but want some more air flow, you can simply pop out the drive and replace it with a cooling module. Pretty neat.
Acer Spin 5
Convertible laptops are both common and popular, and Acer's best is the Spin 5. A refreshed model is now available with a refined design and 8th Gen Core i processors from Intel, which makes this an incredibly affordable quad-core laptop.
With that new 8th Gen Core i5, up to 16 GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage, you've got a very capable machine that also doubles up as a killer media consumption device thanks to that folding display.
The display is "only" 1080p, but with that you get around 10 hours of battery life. Prices start at $599, but if you're prepared to spend more you can get an upgraded version with an Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GTX 1050 graphics, still only topping out at a reasonable $999.
