Firefox 55.0 update adds WebVR support on Windows

Mozilla today released Firefox 55.0, bringing a rather large list of new and changed features, including WebVR support. While the Android version of Chrome and the developer version of Microsoft's own Edge browser already have WebVR support, Mozilla is really the first browser for Windows that offers WebVR support to everyone on different platforms.

Mozilla has stated that the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive will be the biggest beneficiaries of the addition of WebVR, which is a JavaScript API that allows users to enjoy VR in a browser.

A full list of new features and changes can be found at Mozilla's website, but other notable features that are new in Firefox 55.0 include:

  • New options that let users optimize battery usage and modify the number of processes.
  • Improved address bar functionality.
  • Updated bookmark, history, and synced tab sidebar.
  • Printing is easier when in Reader Mode.
  • Restoring browsing sessions with a high number of tabs now takes only an instant.
  • Adobe Flash plugin only allows on http:// and https:// and is strictly click-to-play.

It's great to see WebVR support being added to more browsers. Have you tried it yet? Let us know in the comments.
