Google Voice says number porting a reality, maybe

It has been discovered that Google may have a plan in the works to allow you to port your current number into the  Google Voice service. OK, by "plan," we mean they say "we may offer that at some point." Personally I’m fine with having a separate number for the service, although I can see how it could be useful to some.

Further evidence of this upcoming service has been found on a Google help page here. Google also is letting us suggest services we'd like to see on the Voice platform. You can leave your suggestions here. Or, ya know, in our comments. Cause Google's a big fan of WMExperts, dontchaknow.

  • Hassle of switching to google voice links to a need to let all people know about your new google number. There is a service called AVAKIT which is designed exactly for these kind of situations. And it supports not just numbers, but also skype id_s or email addresses.
  • I think it make sense, Google allowing people to port numbers in. The service is all about consumers having one main number as their primary point of contact, the customer should be able to choose what number that is, considering that number is going to be with them for a long time.
