Windows Mixed Reality is an in-progress extension of Windows 10, which plans to offer a unified ecosystem for various virtual reality and augmented reality devices. Blending the real world and digital content into a single space, mixed reality will offer experiences tailored toward both productivity and entertainment.

For now, the Windows Mixed Reality device family is currently lead by Microsoft’s HoloLens – a standalone holographic headset which uses inside-out tracking to project holograms onto the real world. Third-party OEMs are also working on their own devices, but all currently promise fully-immersive virtual reality, rather than the augmented reality offered by HoloLens. Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, and HP are all working on headsets at this point in time.
