AT&T: no pre-orders for Windows Phone 7

In what has to be obvious by now, those listings on for AT&T's lineup won't be active till next week. How come? AT&T are not taking pre-orders for any Windows Phone 7 device.

It’ll be available in AT&T Corp stores and online, sold on a first come first serve basis on 11/8.

Reason? None given. Which means we can speculate that perhaps stock is low and they will on have on hand what they have in the stores. We hope that is not the case and that everyone here can get their phone on Monday or Tuesday without having to get a raincheck.

Anyone going to be at the store when it opens?

  • I will be! Got to replace this unsecure android.
  • Just put an "i" in front of WP7 and their position would probably be different...
  • I probably will. I was at ATT the day that my current phone, the Fuze, was available, so I'm long overdue and this is definitely a bigger deal. I might stop by a store today or tomorrow to get a feel for how seriously the ATT stores are taking this launch. I'm anxious that I'll show up on Monday only to be "greeted" by ill-prepared employees who are lacking in enthusiasm, knowledge or both.
  • I'm personally hoping that the reason they are not allowing preorders is because they are either giving away or discounting X-box 360s with each phone purchase. They did similar deals in Austria and Spain on launch day ( I doubt it because they will probably sell out here anyway, but the marketing buzz it would create would be wild. Considering that they have a billion dollars to spend on Launch between Kinnect and WP7 for the holidays, perhaps a launch day exclusive might not be a bad idea.... And microsoft could justify the free consoles to get their services sold. Xbox live and an annual zune pass is $200 and once people bite I would expect that you would see multiple annual purchases. The cost of the console would appear to be an easy write off in the face of apps, games, and media purchases. That could easily amount to 400/account if heavily used on an annual basis. I'm getting a phone free from T-mo, so I won't be in line for one, but It would be exciting to see that kind of marketing effort from MS.
  • Now that would be nice (even though i already have an xbox and would prefer a free/discounted kinect). There was a post on wmpoweruser earlier this week showing the WP7 display in an ATT store and there was an xbox on setup.
  • I will be going straight to the at&t store right after work. Anything they give away with the phone will be frosting, the phone will be the cake. I'm excited.
  • I am going on launch day. I might try to scout out a few stores to see if anyone will give out any information on WP7 availability. Still debating on which store to go to (i.e. near work or near home). Can't wait to hold the Focus.
