Destiny 2 seasons will be $10 going forward

What you need to know

  • Destiny 2 is a first-person shooter from Bungie.
  • The game is switching up its business model going forward.
  • Each season will cost $10 and is independent of the upcoming expansion.
  • You can purchase Destiny 2: Shadowkeep through the Microsoft Store.

Destiny 2 is a popular first-person shooter from Bungie. While the first game wasn't well-received, the sequel fixes a lot of the problems that plagued the original. Now that Bungie isn't working with Activision, it looks like the team is changing its business model to make future content more accessible.

Just like Fortnite, Destiny 2 will offer a $10 seasonal pass going forward. A post on the developer's website said the following.

Year 3 will have four fully-supported seasons of content... but this year, you can opt in to each season for $10 — you won't have to pay upfront for an entire year of content, like with the Destiny 2: Forsaken - Annual Pass... The first season in this new vision, Season of the Undying, is included, but if you just want to experience Season of the Undying, you can grab that à la carte. In Season of the Undying, the portal to the Black Garden... has awoken the Vex, and they are now pouring out across the surface of the Moon... By the end of the season, the portals will close, the world state will change, and the seasonal activity connected to it will go away.

It'll be interesting to see how this works out. Hopefully, gamers will buy the $10 passes to access the latest content, but there may be a backlash because Destiny 2 is a AAA game, and not a free-to-play experience. Even the upcoming Shadowkeep expansion costs a pretty penny.
