We've mentioned the issues concerning abnormal amounts of data being used by Windows Phone 7 devices before. Microsoft has investigated the problem and has come to the conclusion that third party solution is the cause.
In a statement to seattlepi.com, a Microsoft spokesperson reported,
No comment as to whom or what the third party solution is. It could be an application or a feature/module of WP7 developed by a third party. Early thoughts pointed to the Feedback feature of Windows Phone 7 and it still could be the likely culprit.
Microsoft did state that they would continue to investigate this issue and will offer any guidance and updates as things become available.

I have posted before, go into settings, phone update and uncheck "Use my cellular data connection to check for updates". This seems to have helped significantly improve with my random data spike problem. I don't know for sure if this is indeed the problem but just by switching this off for the past several weeks has helped alot.Let me know if anyone else has tried this and noticed a noticable improvement. I don't believe this is a coincidence.
Well I registered just to make this comment because it seemed like this had done the trick for my fiancee and I. But I just checked our usage and mine is still extremely low but hers has jumped back up. I'm going to do a compare and contrast to see what apps she has that I don't.I thought that unchecking the "use my cellular data connection" box in Feedback and Phone Update did the trick but I guess that's too easy.
I have the option unchecked, but my wife has it turned on. Doesn't seem to matter either way for us.BTW, as my moniker indicates we are on T-Mobile. Wondering if perhaps the issue is carrier related, but hard to gauge because most people omit this key bit of information.
