Windows Phone Apps

Mi Challenge Alarm is a uniquely designed alarm clock for your Windows Phone that hopes to make it difficult to constantly hit the snooze button or to sleep through your alarm. Being a challenge alarm, Mi will present you with a series of questions based off your music and image files. If you fail to answer one of the questions, the alarm will resume its annoying clammer.

Mi Challenge Alarm has a bit of appeal and is a nice addition to the growing alternatives to the native Windows Phone alarm. However, it is a little dependent on your music and photo libraries having plenty of material to choose from.

On the sidelines of the launch of HDFC Bank's Go Digital campaign in Varanasi, the spiritual capital of India, the bank's Windows Phone app got a fine update as well, with more capabilities coming soon. The launch saw HDFC Bank announcing a technology agnostic Bank Aap Ki Muththi Mein (Bank in your hand) offering which aims to turn a mobile phone into a bank branch.

The official HDFC Bank app has been very efficient, and has garnered positive reviews and small updates every now and then, but a major refresh in the first week of December went awry. The update brought a set of new features allowing customers to use the app without logging in for contacting the bank for various services and support channels, sharing feedback, and locating nearby ATMs and bank branches.

One of our favorite YouTube clients for Windows Phone goes by the name of Tubecast. Besides being a full-featured, beautifully designed YouTube app for managing and playing videos, it can also DLNA and Airplay stream content to your TV at the touch of a button.

Version 2.9.8 of the app brings some significant viewing improvements, including some ultra-high resolution support! Best part, there are no audio de-synchronizations.

The other day we mentioned that Zubie had released their mobile app to the Windows Phone Store. What is Zubie you ask? Zubie is a plug-in module for your vehicle that will locate your vehicle, log its movements, and monitor critical engine components.

The module will transmit all this information to your Zubie account where you can check in on things through a website portal or the Zubie Windows Phone app. The app is free, but the module runs about $100 and comes with a year's service. The service sparked our curiosity and after using Zubie for the past week, it comes across as a useful tool for those looking to monitor their vehicles closer.

Many of us at Windows Central have been using Tweetium for Windows Phone and Windows for months now, but the Windows Phone Twitter client was technically in beta.

No more as starting today, the Windows Phone app is no longer beta and both have jumped in version numbers to 3.0. What's more, a brand new color accent scheme is now in place, making these Modern apps even more appealing.

Brandon Paddock, the developer behind the Tweetium apps, is never shy about giving detailed changelogs. Version 3.0 is no exception as the app has had some significant improvements over the last 24-hours.

If you have ever had the need to mark-up or add notes to a photo, you should take a look at Photo Marker for Windows Phone. It is a simple way to write on your photos, save them for future use or share them as needed.

Photo Marker makes it easy to jot down a measurement, emphasize a portion of a photo or even highlight a portion of a map screenshot or document that you've scanned. Photo Marker may not be an app you use daily but it comes across as a handy Windows Phone photography app worth having around.

When it comes to streaming music wirelessly from your house, Sonos (Sonos.com) is the go-to brand for speakers and hubs. While other wireless systems are just Bluetooth streamers from your phone, Sonos can play music from Pandora, Spotify, Deezer, Songza, and a dozen more services to multiple speakers all at your control.

No official Sonos app for Windows Phone is available today, but reports have been circulating for some time that the company was considering making one. Indeed, back in March the company was measuring interest – and feature requests – for such an app were they ever to make one. (Additionally, ex-Microsoftie Marc Whitten also works for the company now).

There are plenty of quality cooking apps available in the Windows Phone Store and Yummly Recipes Lite is one of the more recent additions that hopes to catch your eye. Yummly Recipes Lite is a recipe search engine and digital recipe box. It combs the top recipe sites for just the right dish and allows you to create collections; much like your Grandmother would do with recipe clippings from magazines that she'd keep in a tin recipe box.

Recipes can be organizes, shared and Yummly Recipes Lite will also let you set up taste preferences so you only get the recipes that match your tastes. Navigation isn't the smoothest but after using Yummly Recipes Lite for a few days, it makes a nice impression and worth trying if you're looking for a Windows Phone recipe app.

Today, version 1.04 of their Mobile app has gone live for Windows Phone. What do we like more than app updates? That would be app updates with detailed changelogs. Luckily, we have one of those.
