Tango video chat app now live in the Marketplace

Well, it's a day late, but Tango, the video-chat app for Windows Phone, is finally here. So for all of those folks with a Samsung Focus S, Flash, HTC Radar or Titan, you'll want to pick this little guy up and give it a go. From the app description:

Tango allows you to make free phone calls and free video calls over 3G, 4G, and Wi-Fi. Make calls to any other person who has Tango installed on their smartphone, tablet or PC. Start a Tango call with just voice, and easily move into a video call when you have something to share. It’s easy to use, it’s fun, and it works.

Tango Features:

  • Free calls between Windows Phone, Android and iOS phones and tablets, and PCs
  • Save money with free international calls to other Tango members
  • Start a phone call with Tango and switch to a video call when you have something to show by tapping the camera icon
  • We automatically find the friends that already have Tango
  • No log in and password - create an account in less than five seconds
  • Invite your friends by Text and Email
  • Simple and easy to use

Cute girls in image are not included with app, nor will they be calling you. Grab the app here in the Marketplace; Thanks, Ryan R/@volvoshine, for the link!

So, I don't get it, the other person has to have it installed on thier phone? Eh, not very useful. Is there a PC application for this as well? In short, how is this better than Skype?

I haven't used skype but I've heard that with Skype you have to purchase points to make calls or texts (not sure about video calling). In the description above, Tango can be used on PC's and on all platforms for mobile OS's as well, and it's all free

Video calling is free, because you can only video call with another skype caller. Same way Tango does it.

tango calls between tango apps, is freeskype calls between skype apps is freeskype calls between skype and phones without skype is not free

Sooooo In order to use it the other person has to have the app also? If so, its kinda pointless for me. I'm trying to find wifi calling/texting app that I can use to contact whoever on those months I'm short on my bill lol ;) Thats the only reason why I miss android WP7 is lacking in that app category :(

Is there a way to use the primary camera? I have it installed on my Focus, and while I don't have a FFC, it still would be useful for sharing live video, like we do with MMS.

Well first make sure you're talking to someone. There should be 2 screens. Their camera taking up the entire screen and your camera on the bottom left corner.you can tap that little screen to switch views

Well of course I'm talking to someone. Otherwise, I wouldn't have a video on/off option to click on. I see 2 blank screens: one big giant blank screen and a smaller blank screen on the bottom left. Voice works fine. Anyone else with a Focus on here got it working? I see a couple HD7s got it working in the comments bellow.

I got mine working on my Surround but my brother's Focus doesn't work.. is it a problem with Samsung devices? or at least w/ the old ones.

Downloaded it on my HD7 and PCUsed my carrier number for the HD7 and my GVoice number for my PC called myself and then i talked to myself. It used the HD7's rear cam by itself and i had to select my PC cam. It has a Picture-in-Picture effect like FaceTime (one for what the other person can see and one for what you see) for both the PC window and the phone.Cut the voice because of feedback but the voice did seem to work fine. The video quality (over WiFi) was actually great for the HD7, no lag whatsoever. My PC cam just sucks but it was normal. (Normal meaning it left trails as it normally does). Doesn't look like i can record any video off of it.The PC Window has an iPhone like skin and. . . Yeah. . . Still need to try over 3G. But i think i did my part.

Installed on my focus, only sound works but no image, only get black screen.PS: they better launch Skype... and I am not talking about a beta or a simple port... they HAVE to integrate Skype with the OS to run smoooooooooth.

Skype app will be here before the end of the year. (Integration probably won't until "Tango update")I dont see why WP7 users seem so impatient. Just enjoy having the most simple, effective, productive OS out there and be happy when updates come out.

microsoft says 'they listen to users'.... so why they don't really listen to users?most of us samsung owners have problems with that crapppy samsung, now tango video doesn't work with FOCUS..... why microsoft continue to offer us samsung devices? weren't they listening to us?

It is considered one of the worst apps i have ever used.Speaker is always ON.The call quality is very bad.The account is not verified if you reinstall the app, you have to contact support every time.

Tango is a very widely used app with Android and iPhone Users, mostly iPhone-iPhone People prefer the Facetime. But for iPhone to Android or Anroid to Android Tango is a preffered choice and works great.

This version of tango supports only WindowsPhone 7.5 there are no updates on this.
