Anthem's gear scaling appears broken, lets you deal more damage without equipment

Anthem launched on Xbox One and PC a few weeks ago, and as is the case with any online game, it has some surprisingly strange bugs. The title is a shared-world third-person shooter from BioWare. BioWare is the studio behind famous franchises like Dragon Age and Mass Effect. Just like Destiny, the developer wants to support the game for the next ten years.

Recently, dedicated Anthem players discovered that higher tier weapons didn't do more damage, and that the most powerful rifle in the game was your first gun. Now, it seems like there's another glitch which makes grinding for loot pointless. According to Reddit user "Gaidax," if you don't have strong support gear and components, it's best to not equip any.

Removing your support items massively increases... damage... Since patch game scales damage... based on average item level you have equipped... you don't have item equipped at all it does not take that slot into account in calculation at all, meaning by removing the low-level support item boosts your average item level for purpose of the calculation. To remove your support item you can create a new fresh loadout — it starts without support item equipped.

We created a new loadout by only equipping legendary weapons. To our surprise, it worked! This is such a strange issue, and it it doesn't seem like BioWare understands how a looter shooter should work. Hopefully the team will address this problem soon, because it's bizarre to say the least, and defeats the purpose of the endgame.

What are your thoughts on this? Will you try it out? Let us know.
