Audible brings playback controls to the taskbar in Windows 10

The recently-launched universal app from Audible has nabbed an update today, bringing along some tweaks and bug fixes, along with the ability to control playback by hovering over the task bar in Windows 10. Here's the full breakdown of what's new in Audible version 10.0.22:

  • Associated PDFs now available directly from the player
  • Performance improvements and bug fixes
  • Ability to control playback on hover from the task bar (Desktop Only)

And there you have it. It's certainly not the most feature-packed update ever, but it's a nice follow-up from the app's initial launch as a universal Windows 10 app in early August. If you'd like to grab the latest Audible update, check the Windows Store or click through the link below to get started.

Thanks for the tip, Kenice!

  • Amazon is doing a great job with audible. Now if they would just update the kindle app.
  • I can't believe the Kindle app still doesn't have resizable snap!
  • It also doesn't have any way to browse besides scrolling though all your book on the phone. This means that any book that doesn't have a title or author at the beginning of the alphabet will take forever to get to if you have a large library. And on the PC the search is still buried in the Windows 8.0 style app search bar that is hard to get to in 10.
  • Nice, I use audible a lot. Currently on the Mitch Rapp Series and I recommend to all. Great story by the late Vince Flynn.
  • I've written to Amazon asking about kindle updates but nothing happens... hopefully the guys on Audible team could inspire them to bring kindle to the same level of other platforms versions... it is really far behind Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I wish they would get on that prime video app
  • I'm absolutely with you on that. How hard is it to port over the iPhone version?
  • Why is the woman in the hamburger menu background singing along with an audiobook?
  • This is a follow up to the idea of a "Great Audible Listen, Guaranteed". Similar to the images on the websites audible.com/sign-in, .com/pap, which even differ by marketplace. Feel free to send feedback via the app though, it's always welcomed!
  • It's fine, just one of those photos that is good for marketing but can also be funny if you think about it too much :)
  • I'm glad to see at least one Amazon app team putting time into making a good Windows app. It's good that it isn't a corporate mandate to not make compelling app for Windows. I hope we see a better Comixology app soon!
  • We have a Comixology app?
  • I would realy like to see an comixology app for WP10 as well - sooner rather than later :)
  • Since when did MS start allowing hybrid windows store apps
  • Hybrid?
  • I think they mean universal
  • Hi!
Anyone getting a "The RPC server is unavaliable. (Excep_FromHResult 0x800706BA)" error on WP10 when trying to launch audio books in the audible app!?
Any idea how to fix this!? Reboot fixed it ;)
  • what the audible app needs is an interactive live tile with playback controls. That's what windows 10 needs. Interactive live tiles are coming!
  • Hmm, not a bad idea... So you can control from the start screen, and for video playback app, even watch a show from the start screen... Resize while on the start screen...hmmm
  • They finally nailed it with Windows 10. Audible have always been supported, but not a great experience. But now it is.
  • And there is whispersync now between your desktop and all other mobile whispersync compatible devices :-)
  • The screenshots on the store listing have the default 'no icon' image for the task tray icon. Oops.
  • Good feedback, pretty sure it'll be updated soon :-) hehe
  • I don't need controls on the task bar.  I need them on the LIVE TILE.
  • This is more of an OS problem, though. Windows 10 simply doesn't have that functionality just yet.
