Microsoft began 41 years ago today in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Microsoft officially started 41 years ago today. On April 4, 1975, co-founders Paul Allen and Bill Gates launched their business to sell the Altair BASIC interpreter that was used on the MITS Altair 8800 personal computer. The company started in Albuquerque, New Mexico but moved to its present worldwide office in Redmond, Washington in 1979.

Microsoft

Today, you can go to the original Microsoft company location at 115 California St. NE, in Albuquerque, New Mexico and check out a plaque that's been placed on a rock to mark the milestone. The plaque itself has been stolen a number of times over the years but, as of this writing, it should be in place. It's a little hard to believe that this spot was the place that one of the biggest companies of all time got its start.

  • Well no matter what everyone says it's MS that every one has to thank to making sooner than later home computing and web access approachable to people that even shouldn't have the right to :P I'm not a hard core fanboy tbh but yeah MS is the most appreciated brand since I know the course of things for living through it and not being born amidst an age where the mist stupid opinions and "reviews" are echoing across the web affecting the weaker minds. End of rant

  • Sante Fe?  Gotta be farther north.  I live in Alb.
  • So that's why Bugs Bunny was always trying to get to Albuquerque.... It all makes sense now. He was sent back from the future to stop the rise of Cortana before it all began. From WC W10M App on a 950XL
  • Happy birthday Microsoft! with Love to #Developers #PaulAllen #Billgates
  • Also on this day 48 years ago, MLK was assassinated, and IMO, the personal computer has had an enormous impact of bringing about equality and advancements for people of all races, creeds and genders. Happy Anniversary MSFT - "let freedom ring"!
  • Happy birthday, Microsoft. Excited about the future!
  • Happy birthday, Microsoft!
  • I remember my college freshman project in 1977.  We toggled in 33 octal commands into an Alrair 8800 computer, then ran a punchtape through a teletype machine.  If everything worked, we would see "Microsoft 4K BASIC" appear on a Beehive terminal.  It normally took two or three times to boot (using the bootstrap program) the computer.  We built a little wheeled robot then wrote a program to keep the robot from falling off of a table.  In my senior year, I used MBASIC on an Apple II running CP/M on a Z80 card.  I can go on (as I write this on my Surface 3), but while I don't consider myself a Microsoft fanboy, I've used Microsoft products most of my life.  Happy Birthday!
  • You're not a fan boy, but a fan daddy.
  • Lol! Good one
  • I think the question here is why haven't they used better glue to secure the plaque
  • I don't know why Bing didn't assign a logo for Microsoft birthday
