Microsoft Research's Xim app scores photo captioning and saving in latest update

In addition, the update also brings the usual smattering of bug fixes and performance improvements.

Here's how the official changelog for Xim version 1.5.1 breaks down:

  • Now you can add a caption, save a picture, and more
  • Some performance improvements
  • Minor bug fixes

If you're unfamiliar with Xim, it's an app from Microsoft Research that allows you to share photos with others around you without passing your phone around. You simply select photos you want to share, and send them to those around you using the Xim app on Windows Phone, iOS, or Android. From there, every action you take on your device, from panning to zooming, is replicated on the devices you're sharing with.

If you'd like to grab the update for yourself, you can hit up the store link below to start captioning and saving those photos.

  • It can be like Snapchat Indirectly if there introduce the Self Destruct feature ;)
  • Don't share things with people you don't trust. SnapChat lives because we love sharing shit with those we don't/can't trust
  • Tru dat
  • Snapchat was born from the Antitrust World
  • that's why I only like instagram
  • I forgot all about this..... Why doesn't MS advertise this❓ I just don't see what they plan to do here. Are they just crossing their fingers, and hoping someone pays it attention❓
  • Rod....
You are well aware that this is not just this app. The whole of Microsoft's hardware and software catalogue is never advertised or ill-advertised.
  • I want YOU to change that.
  • LoL
  • He can.
  • Thanks for that bro.
  • You're welcome.
  • You beautiful beast..lets use xim together
  • I wish we could caption photos for OneDrive...
  • However it still isn't designed like a Windows Phone app. It doesn't use the photo picker, doesn't accept shares, and requires separate login for Onedrive. It also doesn't respect your camera selection (launches Microsoft Camera instead of Lumia Camera). At least the latest version supports phone albums so you have a little bit of filtering of pictures, but you still have to use the annoying "more" button to scroll through your pictures.
  • Agreed.
  • Agreed
  • Tried it for the first time today. Cool idea but the app keeps crashing.
  • If this was a universal app it would be a great idea, but a sharing app made by MS to share between platforms... with no version for Windows? Really? Works on Apple and Android tablets I see. Hmm.
  • Would that be photo beamer perhaps?
  • Stop using it because my friends with Android Xim app cannot save shared photos on their phone. Is this working now?
  • I tried showing off this app to my GF. I called it The Magic XIM. I can swipe the photos in MY phone and it would swipe automatically in HERS!! How cool is that! Guess what, the text message with the link never came. :/ Thank you Microsoft! You made me look like a total idiot once again :)
