Samsung Omnia Pro still smiling from afar

Want a Samsung Omnia Pro? Sorry, you can't have one yet. Well, at least not without importing it at a pretty penny and giving up U.S. 3G in the process. For us, that's a dealbreaker. For others, a small price to pay for that 800MHz processor and 3.5-inch AMOLED touchscreen running Windows Mobile 6.5. And unlike its Omnia II cousin (which you can get tomorrow), the Pro has a slider keyboard. For a better look at what you'd be paying a premium for, check out the brief unboxing video from Pocketnow after the break.

  • should have been out when tp2 was out
  • Agree with you there. I like Sammy's WinMo phones. As a longtime Blackjack owner, I would've given this a long hard look over my current Touch Pro 2.
  • for the sake of the giveaway, I'm agreeing with myself after signing in :D

  • Oh man. A while back, this was one of the phones I was eagerly waiting for. With a nice 3"5in AMOLED WVGA screen, a 800Mhz processor, and a great QWERTY keyboard, how could I not be excited? However, Samsung took so long to release it that by the time it came out, new phones were released/announced that dampened the B7610's appeal greatly. It didn't help that the B7610 didn't have US 3G on my carrier. Samsung makes such great devices, but they really need to be more competitive. The last truly great competitive phone I've seen from them was the i8910...and that wasn't released in the US either!

  • would have hoped it had spapdragon but i want it!
  • I still don't get why the US carriers are so slow with these devices...isn't the US a big enough market to warrant some better timing of such high end devices? I mean...and if your samsung (or ahem..HTC...cough...HD2...cough) wouldn't it be to your advantage to get your flagship devices out to the US quick knowing that everyone else (Samsung, HTC, Toshiba, Acer, whoever else) is going to be so far behind. What if the TG01 or HD2 was out in the US months ago? would there be any real competition?
  • To add...it's not like these devices aren't already working, they're not prototypes or anything, they've all been released. Slap a US radio in there and at least get them out to Best Buy unlocked. The carriers will catch on quick enough so that they don't lose out on contracts not being renewed....
