Blazin' Aces, aerial combat the old fashion way for Windows Phone 8

Blazin' Aces is a new air combat game for Windows Phone 8 that was released last week. The game is nicely drawn up, has its fair share of challenges but can also be a little on the frustrating side.

You play the role of a pilot in the golden era of aviation (World War I/II periods) and have to defeat the invading forces. Blazin' Aces has two gaming modes, a soundtrack that fits the action well and plenty of power-ups/boost to help you with your mission. The game is similar to Mini-Squadron (which is sadly no longer available), just a little more edgy.

Blazin' Aces will require a little patience until you get used to game play and the controls, but will begin to grow on you once you get a hang of things.

Flight Factory updated with increased customisation and design improvements

Flight Factory is an interesting and invaluable app for Windows Phone. It enables consumers to check the status of flights while on the move. Utilising data obtained from FlightStats, the app will help make trips a little bit more convenient with up-to-date information for individual flights. Flight Factory has been bumped to version 1.3, which includes numerous improvements.

Riding the storm out with Plane in Storm

Plane in Storm is a fast paced arcade game for your Windows Phone that has you piloting a plane, trying to out run bad weather, dodging flying objects, storm clouds and lighting bolts along the way.

The game is nicely animated with two game modes and plenty of bonus items. I'm not sure if Plane in Storm can hold up to marathon gaming sessions but it's a nice way to pass short bits of time with.

Extreme Flight, a Barnstorming experience for your Windows Phone

Extreme Flight is an arcade styled game for your Windows Phone that brings Barnstorming to the small screen.  With Extreme Flight you pilot a stunt plane through various obstacle courses.  Obstacle courses full of hoops to fly through all the while avoiding dangers such as blimps, hot air balloons and other sundries.

Extreme Flight isn't the hardest game to pick up but it does take a sensitive touch to navigate your airplane safely through the obstacle course. It's a fun game for your Windows Phone and a decent way to pass short bits of time with.

Armed Strike: Air and Sea combat from your Windows Phone

Armed Strike is an arcade styled, World War II combat game for your Windows Phone. You battle the Axis powers by air and sea, piloting a wide variety of aircraft and ships. Armed Strike has ten missions in a campaign mode, each with its own unique boss to defeat.  Each mission can be replayed so you can try to better your score. The game also has OpenXLive support where you can log in and view an online leaderboard or access your OpenXLive Game Center.

Graphics are nice, game play challenging and if you like arcade styled combat games, Armed Strike is worth a try.

Steambirds - Review

Steambirds has come to the Windows Phone Marketplace and if you like air combat games, you're going to want to check it out. Steambirds is a turn based, multi-level aerial combat game.

The combat view is from above and game play has a methodical touch by taking on the enemy planes one move at a time. There are multiple weapons at your disposal and a handful of aerial maneuvers that can help you take out the enemy planes.

747 and Warthog added to Infinite Flight's flight line

Infinite Flight has been updated to version 1.9 which will add the Boeing 747 and A-10 Warthog to its flight line. The popular flight simulator for your Windows Phone has also added a flight planning system, runway landing paths in the maps, and your flight plan information appears in the mini-map.

The 747 and Warthog join an impressive line up of aircraft that includes the Space Shuttle, Cessna 172SP, the French Airbus A380,and the Boeing 737. It doesn't appear to be any combat missions available for the A-10 but maybe with the next round of updates?  Maybe a little target practice?

There is a free trial version available for Infinite Flight with the full version running $4.99. If you like flight simulators, Infinite Flight is well worth the price of admission. You can find Infinite Flight here (opens Zune) at the Marketplace.

Infinite Flight adds a touch of France

The developers over at Flying Development Studio have been busy updating Infinite Flight. What could be considered the ultimate flight simulator for your Windows Phone is now on version 1.7.

The update most notably adds the Airbus A380-800 (Air France Livery) on to the flight line. Other items on the v1.7 change log includes:

  • Added airport names/distances in the 3D view
  • Added more options in the settings page
  • Added quick calibration option (to skip the wizard when calibrating in game)
  • More performance improvements

Infinite Flight isn't for the faint of heart but if you like flight simulators, there's a trial version available to tempt you with. The full version runs $4.99 and you can find them both here (opens Zune) at the Marketplace.

Rise of Glory - Review

Microsoft Game Studios and Revo Solutions Games is offering Rise of Glory, a World War I air combat game for Windows Phone 7. The game puts you in the cockpit of World War I era fighting planes where you can fight your way through a single player campaign or battle through user defined missions.

Flight controls takes full advantage of your Windows Phones sensors and the game is presented with high graphic quality. Rise of Glory is also integrated with Xbox Live to allow you to share achievements and scores with your online friends. The only downside to the Xbox integration is that there isn't a multi-player mode available.
