Windows Phone App Review: NCIS Pocket Guide

The Windows Phone app NCIS Pocket Guide is a quick reference guide for the NCIS television series. The Pocket Guide covers character and episode details for both NCIS and NCIS Los Angeles.

The NCIS Pocket Guide has character bios, episode guides, a listing of Gibb's Rules (way of life rules created by the main character) and a listing of any re-occurring characters that appear on the series. Simply laid out, NCIS Pocket Guide is a decent app for your Windows Phone with a bit of room for improvement. It's not going to appeal to everyone but if you're a fan of the NCIS television shows, it's worth checking out.

The main menu for the NCIS Pocket Guide has options to view the NCIS or NCIS Los Angeles guides, view the app's credits, community and rate/review the app in the Windows Phone Store.

The NCIS section has more reference material including character bios, Gibb's Rules, Re-occurring characters, and Episode lists. NCIS Los Angeles only has reference material for Character Bios and Episode lists.

Character Bios includes the personality, traits, and general information on each character. Episode listings offer a brief synopsis of each episode through the end of season nine for NCIS and the end of season three for NCIS Los Angeles.

Being a fan of the show, I liked the concept behind NCIS Pocket Guide. Navigation was straight forward, the app ran stable, and it provided a decent amount of information on both NCIS series. While NCIS Pocket Guide is a nice app, there is room for improvement. For starters, it needs an image gallery or just more images throughout the app. You have a good amount of text more images would give the app better balance. Video clips would be nice too.

Next, the episode guide needs a little more beef to it. Some synopsis's are only two-three sentences. Maybe add special guest stars, run time, or additional information that is available. Lastly, and I realize I don't have much room to talk, but there are a lot of spelling errors throughout the app that really need to be cleaned up.

There is an update in the works that will bring a NCIS trivia game to the app and hopefully the developer can polish things up a bit. Even a background wallpaper would spruce it up a bit.

As is, if you're a fan of NCIS the NCIS Pocket Guide is worth giving a try. It's not of the caliber of Prime TV but it has the potential to come close.

NCIS Pocket Guide is a free app that you can find here in the Windows Phone Store.
