5 Windows 10 apps you should try: Wake up, check the weather, battle some monsters, and record your thoughts about it

With the ever-growing number of apps and games in the Windows Store, it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with what's out there.

For that reason, every Friday we showcase some apps that have piqued our interest. They may have been in the news recently, they may be new to the Windows Store, or they could simply be old apps that we just stumbled upon.

They are the 5 Intriguing Apps of the Week.

TubeHD Universal

TubeHD Universal

TubeHD is a straight-forward YouTube client for Windows 10 PC and Mobile. With its sharp design and clean layout, the app is very easy to use.

Find whatever video or channel you are looking for quickly with the search field, or browse by categories like Film, Science, Activism, etc.

The built-in video player supports various levels of video quality, including 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p, and 1080p. You can watch within the viewing window with user comments along the side panel or expand the video to full-screen.

TubeHD also supports account login, so you can manage your subscriptions, create playlists, like videos, and make comments. There is also the option to queue up videos to watch at a later time.

TubeHD may not have all of the bells and whistles of some of the more well-known YouTube apps out there, but it does have its fair share of features not to mention that it is well-designed and free to use. Available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile.

DailyDiary

DailyDiary

The aptly-named DailyDiary is a personal journal made for Windows 10. The app is built for both computers and phones and reminds you to record your thoughts on a daily basis.

But you aren't limited to simply typing in a box. On the contrary, not only can you write, but you can add photos, and even record audio messages. Each entry can be tagged with keywords for future searches and marked with locations and ratings.

DailyDiary integrates with your device calendar, as well as social media. Whether it's posting to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, connecting with Swarm, or trying a new beer with Untappd, DailyDiary has you covered.

In addition to its rich feature set and deep integration, the app offers plenty of customization options. You can set your reminders and notifications, choose your theme and colors, and password protect your journal. And you can import and export your diary, so you'll never lose it.

Available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile.

Strawberry Weather

Strawberry Weather

Strawberry Weather is a minimalistic weather forecasting app for Windows 10 PC and Mobile.

Let the app detect your current location or input any number of cities of your choice and get your report in simplistic, minimalistic, or emoji weather icons.

But despite the streamlined look, Strawberry Weather delivers comprehensive information. The app will show current conditions, as well as the 5-day forecast. Each day listed can also be scrolled to the side for incremental hourly conditions.

Strawberry Weather is also jam-packed with options. You can choose between a slew of theme colors, or let the app match your Windows theme.

You can choose between metric and imperial units and set what location the app opens to, with your settings syncing between all of your devices. Live Tiles and toast notifications can be configured to alert you at whatever interval you choose. There's also a lock screen setting so you can get the weather without having to log in.

Weather apps are a dime a dozen on Windows 10, but Strawberry Weather has carved out a sweet little niche for itself.

Realarm Beta

Realarm Beta

Realarm built a reputation as probably the most comprehensive alarm and reminder app available for previous versions of Windows, and the beta for Windows 10 PC and Mobile just builds upon it.

This app is more than just an alarm clock. It is capable of creating countless one-off alarms, as well as ones that recur on a weekly, daily, hourly, or minute basis. They can be personalized to play any one of the included tones or specific songs from your music library.

Each alarm can have a customized snooze interval, and can even be set to require a puzzle to solve to disable it. The puzzles are math problems that can vary in difficulty to make sure you get up and go, rather than just fall back asleep.

All of your alarms and settings will sync between your computer, tablet, smartphone, or whatever other Windows 10 devices you have.

You can also set Realarm to display your upcoming alarms on your lock screen or in the Action Center. Action Center notifications can even be used to skip an alarm instead of opening the app.

And just when you thought it had every feature you could imagine, it was recently updated to include even more.

The fact is, Realarm is the mother of all alarm apps and a must-have busiest of Windows 10 users.

Cyclopsy

Cyclopsy

Cyclopsy is an exciting puzzle game that combines the mechanics of Othello and Checkers with ridiculous animated cyclopes.

Much like Othello, the object of the game is to defeat the rival faction of Cyclopes by their troops your color. You do this by jumping them, like you would in checkers, though in Cyclopsy you can hop multiple pieces at once if they are in the same row.

The game is made more interesting by the addition of power-ups and weapons that have different effects on the board. For instance, you can activate a bomb to destroy the enemy, use a power-up to make them snooze for a turn, etc.

Each level has a different layout and varying goals to reach to win. There are also stars on the field that you can collect to get a higher score and gold to use as in-game currency. Of course, you can also use real-life money to purchase more lives, gold, and so on.

Overall, Cyclopsy is a pretty entertaining game. The strategy aspect of it makes it compelling for adults, while the simple rules and fun graphics make it appealing to kids.

Cyclopsy is free to play, but as mentioned above, there are plenty of opportunities to make in-app purchases if you'd like.

Available for Windows 10 PC.
