Adidas miCoach train & run gets new Windows Phone 8.1 features in the latest update

Now that Windows Phone 8.1 is starting to officially rollout for consumers, Bluetooth 4.0 LE enabled devices are a bigger deal. Adidas miCoach is a running and training app for Windows Phone that came out late last year. Initially for Lumia devices it is now available for everyone (though Lumia owners still get exclusive voice packs).
Today, version 1.2.2.118 (up from 1.2.2853.0) is live in the Store and with it a few new options for those on Windows Phone 8.1.
Adidas miCoach Windows Phone 8.1 features
- Share your runs to any social network connected like facebook, twitter, micoach.com or simply via email.
- "Pin" your favorite workouts to your home screen for fast access.
- Schedule runs directly from the app to the phone's calendar.
- Check-in at the location you exercised via Foursquare
Combined with the Bluetooth support for the Adidas smart heart-rate monitor (HRM) and Stride Sensor, voice coaching, GPS, NFC sharing with friends and advanced logging, the miCoach software certainly feels premium. The new features for those on Windows Phone 8.1 only sweeten the deal, including the ability to schedule runs from the app to the phone's calendar, although I have yet to find this in the app.
If you are looking to exercise and want an impressive app, make sure you pickup Adidas miCoach and take the updated version for a spin.
Thanks, Diego S., for the tip!

Good job
-
New features and improvements are always welcome. Thank you Adidas.
-
Nice one, Adidas
-
Sweet, use this app with the Adidas Bluetooth heart rate monitor on my 1020. Good to see they are still improving this app!
-
Best running app for WP. If someone is interrsting here is my review: https://medium.com/@mattmarenic/adidas-micoach-app-for-windows-phone-rev...
-
Thanks, will definitely give it a read.
-
Thanks
-
Great review, thanks!

I think Bing health and fitness is away better and has a simpler UI
-
Probably, but bing health and fitness is not cross platform...yet.
-
No, that's true...
-
Yes, I agree, when it comes apps that are in direct or even indirect competition with the 'Bing' family of WP apps the question is, are they improving on the Bing app? 90% of the time the answer is no...
-
What ways is Bing Health "way better"?
-
It might be better for people using it in a simpler way, by micoach has more features specific to excercising. With running, for example, its active monitoring and updating of pace zones is the best I've tried in any app, and that's something that's really pretty important.
-
The link isn't working
-
Give a few minutes. It will once again.
-
If only we also had the official Nike app, Nike+, it's a great app, the best I ever used on android, but now on Windows, have to use Bing health, viz. Good too, lacks many features though,
-
Daniel, could WPC write another review roundup of Sports apps for Windows Phone? The last one I can find is 2012..? Obviously new apps have been introduced since then...
-
Sure, will add it to our list.
-
This is why I love WPC.
-
Me too... Normally...
-
Thank you :)
-
Yup, that would be cool, wpc gang! And thanks in advance for the great work you guys do here!
-
Amazing app.
But how I need to wait for Lumia Cyan for my Polar H7 HRM to work with micoach. (Lumia 920 running DP 8.1)
It was working well till I updated. Shouldn't have updated, as my runs are heart rate based. -
Looking forward to giving this a try.
-
Looking at user reviews, it would seem that they didn't find a work around for the background GPS issue on WP 8.1 . I don't have time to test right now unfortunately. Can someone confirm?
-
I have this working with offline GPS and linked to SpeedCell and HRM. All this plus voice coaching and music mix. What else would you need?
-
Are you using Windows Phone 8 or 8.1?
-
WP8.1 dp on Lumia 1020
-
Hmm, very interesting. Thanks for the info. Will check myself when I get a moment.
-
Which HRM are you using? Adidas? Polar H7? Wahoo? Also, do you use an armband for your 1020, if so, which? Thanks!
-
Adidas. No arm band, just the Phone in the back pocket. With cyan and the latest version, all works perfect...
-
Quick question, is this app only for running or does it supports other simple exercises like squats and stuff? I'm thinking of trying it out but I already have Bing H&F and Runtastic... There's only so much running one can do. :)
-
Only one question, does this app run in background?? I need it for running and cycling.,
-
Yes it does..jst make sure it is allowed to run in background..you can do that through the battery saver app..
-
This is one HIGH QUALITY app. One of the best I've seen on Windows Phone. Just coincidentally, I bought 2 Adidas products today. Thank you Adidas!
-
How do the gs4 and gs5 track steps (pedometer) is it gyroscope and such sensors? Is there WP app that is a pedometer? Do I need to get a wearable?
-
This app miCoach can track your steps, but only if you sync an SPEED_CELL. I don't know any WP with included pedometer. Miss that from my N8...
-
GPS tracker,b is it available in offline mode?
-
Yes it available on offline too
-
Absolutely, I always use it in offline mode.
-
Does it have some plan for running?!
For example for beginner or marathon or...? -
Go to micoach.com and find out. You can create your personalized plan...
-
This app is better than nike running that stucked at iOS and now it's abandoned Android Nike Running app.
I hope that Adidas is not following Nike way... -
Thanks for the recognition for this tip. You guys are very quick to pick up and elaborate a News item!
-
Also, Daniel, if you want to find out how to schedule runs from the app, you can visit: https://community-micoach.adidas.com/community/support/en/help/guides-an... and select Windows Phone from the product, you will find an entry: Add your miCoach workouts to your calendar in your Windows 8 Phone
-
All the time I see people appreciate Bing Health and Fitness. I like it for its simplicity but its not very useful when I cannot share my runs with my friends on Facebook . Hope Bing realizes the importance of sharing on Facebook .
-
My icon stopped paring with my speed cell and hrm after the update to either developer preview or the micoach app
-
Same here. Now we need to wait for cyan (I think) :(
-
Is the app only compatible with the Adidas equipment, or will it sync with any regular Bluetooth enabled heart rate monitor. Going through some life changes and seriously considering trying to get into shape, and the app looks damned good but want to make sure I have the proper hardware for it. Any help is much appreciated.
-
I am using a Big_is bt hr monitor from eBay. This one http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5575095911&t... and it works perfectly.
-
Awesome thanks! My brother works at Best Buy so I can usually get the staff discount, so now I can look into which one will work best for me.
-
It makes you want to go buy Adidas gear and not from the likes of Nike/Asics that don't support our beloved Windows Phone
-
Great to see an update this it's the app I use for running. Cycling is still Cyclometer with the Strava plugin though.
