Battlefield 1 gets 4K Xbox One X upgrade [updated]

Battlefield 1 came out on October 21, 2016, and has garnered a significant following since then. The game features PlayStation 4 Pro support, but until now it was unclear if developer DICE would enhance it for Xbox One X. In a rather surprising move, the studio just announced that Battlefield 1 will be enhanced for Xbox One X, and the team would provide more details during a livestream on July 31, 2018.

Updated July 31, 2018: The Battlefield 1 Summer Update is rolling out now with Xbox One X enhancements. The game now achieves native 4K resolution through dynamic scaling. According to Digital Foundry, the title doesn't appear to be using checkerboard rendering like PlayStation 4 Pro and achieves a full 4K image "ninety to a hundred percent" of the time.

The "Summer Update" is expected to launch in the coming weeks, but we should be provided a concrete release date tomorrow. However, the developer may surprise us all and launch it then. We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more. Until then, Xbox One X owners can rejoice that Battlefield 1 is getting the long-awaited upgrade after almost a year.

Just like Star Wars Battlefront II, Battlefield 1 is expected to run at native 4K resolution on Microsoft's new machine. However, a dynamic scaling solution will most likely be implemented to ensure 60 FPS.

In our review of the game, we said, "after years of creating expansive war zones, Battlefield 1 has emerged as one of DICE's greatest titles to date. In terms of raw gameplay mechanics, a range of new concepts has been put in play, shaping a truly outstanding first-person shooter."
