BBC News Mobile, Mango edition, is finally released to the Marketplace

We've been following the development of BBC News Mobile for months now as it was in beta since July. Now, you can finally get your hands on this top-notch free news app.

We're not going to mince words, as far as news apps go, this one is the creme of the crop. You get an excellent news source, a slick looking app and now with Mango, you get some awesome features on board. Some of those features in version 2.6 are:

  • Double Sided Live Tiles
  • Pin individual feeds to home screen
  • Background service meaning improved live tile and breaking news notifications
  • Background caching if WiFi is available to speed up the app

Pick it up here in the Marketplace, nao. Hey and combine it with the BBC Radio Player for Mango and get the whole BBC experience. And check out our early hands on video after the break to see it in action. Thanks, Christopher L., for the heads up!

  • It's not an official BBC app
  • Who said it was official?
  • May not be official, but it's a damn nice app.
  • Cant believe this is free, and no ads as well. Great update!
  • Wonderful app and I'm very pleased. The only issue I have is I can't get the notifications to uncheck. I want to uncheck breaking news and sports but the selection of removing the check mark will not save. That's the only issue I have.. Make some more apps..
  • You know what grinds my gears...?1 - When the market app doesn't tell me there's an update straight away.2 - I go straight to the app in the market to force and update, but it says there isn't one.3 - I follow the link above to the market and click 'reinstall' on the application, and it updates. Why cant the market on the phone just work! There really does need to be a way to force a check for updates in the market!
  • ahem,
  • Thanks buddy, good tip! This would have fixed the version number being wrong as well I'd imagine. Quite annoying though, I can't possibly do this will all my apps every time!
