Best 2016 Olympic Games apps for Windows 10

The 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro kick off this week. The games offer a wide range of sporting events that include golf, gymnastics, swimming, track and more. While many are planning on attending the games in Rio, millions more will enjoy the global competition from the comfort of home.

There are several great Windows 10 apps to help keep you up to date on all the medal-winning action. The Windows 10 Mobile versions of these apps are perfect to use while on the go and the PC versions can be enjoyed from the comfort of your living room.

There aren't many dedicated Summer Games apps for Windows 10, and that's okay. But there are several excellent general sports apps that will serve you well long after the closing ceremony in Rio — here are the best.

NBC Sports Live

NBC Sports Live Extra delivers thousands of live sporting events to your Windows 10 PC that air on the NBC, NBCSN and Golf Channel. The free app now includes a 2016 Olympic channel that delivers live content from the Rio Games.

The NBC Olympics channel is located in the main menu of the app and delivers a collection of featured videos on the games and hundreds of live streams of Olympic events.

There is a Windows 10 Mobile version of NBC Sports Live Extra, but it has yet to be updated to include the NBC Olympics channel. Also, please note that NBC Sports Live Extra is only available in the U.S. and certain U.S. territories.

The Microsoft-produced app was recently updated to include a section dedicated to the 2016 Summer Olympics. Here you can find news stories from Rio, scores from the games and schedules for upcoming events.

Available for Windows 10 Mobile, 2016 Olympics also includes video highlights and features, medal watches and athlete profiles. It is a rather comprehensive app, but can be glitchy at times with noticeable delays in launching features and unresponsive on-screen buttons. Also, there is an oddity in the Store listing.
