Microsoft's Surface Pro X is a 2-in-1 PC that's made to be mobile thanks to a slim, light build and LTE connectivity. If you're carrying it with you wherever you go, you'll no doubt want to invest in some protection to prevent against drops and scratches while also offering a bit of extra functionality. There aren't a ton of options released yet for the new Pro X, but we've put together a list of the best cases and skins so far.
UAG Metropolis (opens in new tab)
For maximum protection, the UAG Metropolis brings MIL-STD 810G durability, a few colors to choose from, and a built-in kickstand that does a decent job of emulating the Pro X's stand. The Pro X keyboard is compatible, and there's a dedicated holder for the standard Surface Pen. This is a pricier option, but it's worth it if you're hard on your devices.
ACdream case (opens in new tab)
This slim case, available in four colors, is made of PU leather and is compatible with the keyboard attached. When open, it offers use of the built-in Pro X stand, and all ports, sensors, and cameras remain unblocked. A slim pocket on the back lets you store smaller documents, making it a great choice for traveling. A loop on the side keeps the standard Surface Pen nearby when not in use.
iCarryAll organizer case (opens in new tab)
Have a lot of gear to carry around between meetings or lectures? This portfolio from iCarryAll delivers a genuine leather and wool felt premium build, complete with pockets and pouches galore for stationery, small devices, and your Pro X. It's all held together with a sturdy zipper and a leather button flap adds some flair and extra security.
MightySkins Pro X (opens in new tab)
No cases here, but these skins can offer solid protection against scratches and smudges accrued during regular use. MightySkins offers 30 different styles to choose from so you can get something you like. Apply to the bezel around the display and to the back of the tablet, including the kickstand. Cutouts for cameras and sensors ensure you don't lose functionality.
dbrand Pro X (opens in new tab)
With dbrand's customizable Pro X skins, you can choose from myriad different designs for each portion of the tablet. This allows you to get exactly the look you want while also providing scratch protection for your expensive tablet. No cameras or sensors are covered with these ports, so there are no compromises.
If we're making some suggestions
There aren't a lot of cases available yet for Microsoft's Surface Pro X, though the options above should suit quite a few people who need stylish protection. We were able to test UAG's Metropolis Pro X case and noted its durable build, MIL-STD 810G drop protection, and firm fit. The metal stand we've seen from previous versions has been replaced with hard plastic, which makes the case lighter overall.
It's compatible with the Pro X keyboard and has an elastic strap at the top to keep it closed, and you don't lose access to any ports, cameras, or sensors. There's a dedicated holder along the top for the standard Surface Pen to keep it close when not in hand. This is a pricey option at about $70 (opens in new tab), but it's the right choice if you're hard on your devices and want to keep your Pro X looking pristine.
