Bill Gates is the billionaire founder of Microsoft. Along with friend Paul Allen, Gates founded the PC giant in 1975. Gates has held positions as chairman, CEO and chief software architect during his time at Microsoft. He has been on Forbes list of the world's wealthiest people since 1987, and was also the largest individual shareholder at Microsoft until May of 2014.

Gates stepped down from his position as CEO of Microsoft in January 2000, creating the position of chief software architect for himself, where he remained until June 2006 when he made the change from full-time work to part-time. He later stepped down as chairman in February 2014, with newly appointed CEO Satya Nadella taking the reins.
