Call of Duty: Modern Warfare revives 'Killstreaks,' adds tanks and chemical weapons
A better multiplayer experience.
What you need to know
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a soft reboot of the popular franchise.
- The game features cross-play between consoles and PC.
- The complete multiplayer reveal is scheduled for August 1.
- You can preorder the game for $60 on Amazon.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is an upcoming first-person shooter from Activision's Infinity Ward team. The studio developed the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, so it has the necessary experience to shine a modern light on the franchise. Unlike 2018's Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare features a single-player campaign as well as traditional multiplayer modes.
Today, the official Call of Duty Twitter account revealed that "Killstreaks" are back. Killstreaks reward players for getting a number of kills in a row. For example, if you kill three other players, you can summon a drone that scans the map and reveals enemy locations. The rewards escalate from there. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, you could call in a nuclear strike after defeating 25 enemies. Talk about excessive!

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, we know that you'll be able to summon a tank, drop chemical weapons, and call in a "Juggernaut" gear set. Other rewards should be revealed next month. "Camping" is a huge problem in multiplayer games, and these rewards seem like they solve that problem. For example, you'll have to roam around the map to use the tank. Instead of simply hiding, you'll want to make the most of the Juggernaut armor by seeking out enemies.
It'll be interesting to see how multiplayer changes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. From what we saw on Twitch during the "Gunfight" reveal, the combat is a lot like Battlefield V and Rainbow Six Siege. However, only time will tell how it stacks up to the competition. August 1 is definitely going to be a defining moment for the Call of Duty series. The series needs to evolve to keep its crown.
Look who's back!
